Job Description
The Opportunity
Salary: $103,321 - $118,887 + Superannuation per annum
We are seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Payroll Manager to join our team on a 12-month max-term contract, covering an internal secondment. In this key leadership role, you will be responsible for overseeing the full payroll function, ensuring timely and accurate payroll processing, and maintaining strict compliance with all relevant legislation and internal policies.
This is a fantastic opportunity for a seasoned payroll professional to lead a high-performing team, and drive improvements across payroll systems and processes.
Please note the current incumbent of this role will be in the business during this time focusing on a new payroll system implementation.
A day on the job will see you:
- Lead and manage the end-to-end processing of two fortnightly payroll runs, ensuring accuracy and timeliness.
- Supervise all payroll activities ensuring compliance with relevant legislation, including tax regulations, superannuation contributions, and enterprise agreements.
- Oversee the completion of all complex payroll variations such as salary adjustments, benefits, allowances, and leave entitlements are being completed in a timely manner.
- Ensure the accurate maintenance of payroll records, safeguarding data integrity for internal reporting, external audits, and regulatory compliance. Ensure payroll data is consistently accurate and aligned with organisational policies.
- Act as the escalation point for complex payroll queries from employees and managers, providing expert guidance on payroll matters and employment conditions.
- Lead the preparation of year-end finalisation, including the reconciliation of all payroll data (including FBT amounts and the distribution to the ATO). Ensure all year-end processes are completed in line with regulatory deadlines.
- Manage communications with external government agencies for the application of specific compliance functions, including but not limited to child support payments, ensuring adherence to legal requirements.
- Oversee and coordinate the administration of employee pay rates and pay schedules where applicable, ensuring accuracy and compliance with employment agreements and organisational policies.
- Oversee the calculation and processing of entitlements related to Worker’s Compensation claims, ensuring timely and accurate payment of benefits.
- Lead the processing of complex payroll tasks such as back payment calculations, leave audits (e.g., long service leave), and superannuation reconciliations. Ensure accuracy and compliance in all calculations and reports
Qualifications
About You
To succeed in this role, you will have the following key skills and experience:
- Relevant qualifications in Payroll or related discipline is highly desirable.
- Extensive experience in managing end-to-end payroll operations, preferably within a large or complex organisation.
- Experience in leading a payroll team and driving system improvements is highly desirable.
- In-depth knowledge of payroll legislation, superannuation, tax laws, and enterprise agreements as well as a strong understanding of how payroll integrates with HR and financial systems.
- Experience in the processing of payroll and associated records, including superannuation and relevant taxation legislation.
- Demonstrated ability to analyse payroll data and trends, providing insights and recommendations for improvement with the proven ability to resolve complex payroll issues efficiently and effectively.
- Experience in dealing with confidential personnel and/or business records.
- Demonstrated ability to ensure payroll compliance with all relevant legislation and manage risk in payroll processing and system operations.
- In-depth knowledge of payroll legislation, superannuation laws, and enterprise agreements. Experience in payroll system improvements and project management is highly desirable.
- High-level ability and experience in Microsoft Excel (i.e. formula creations, VLOOKUP, Data Filters etc.).
- Advanced proficiency with payroll systems, HRMIS, and Microsoft Excel. Experience in managing system integrations, upgrades, and payroll automation.
