Regional Council in Southeast Victoria
I'm excited to be working with a local council located in the south-eastern suburbs looking for a Structural Asset Engineer. The council is looking for an experienced and innovative Asset Engineer to guide the strategic planning of over 1000 structural assets across a billion-dollar portfolio. This includes a wide variety of assets such as culverts, seawalls, and retaining walls, boardwalks, stairways, bridges, and pedestrian underpasses that enhance safety, accessibility and environmental stability across both urban centres and coastal or bushland environments. Together, these assets play a vital role in supporting public safety, economic activity and community connectivity-and they need a skilled engineer to plan their future.
This is a strategic role focused on asset planning, data interpretation, and sustainability. You'll be instrumental in building long-term, cost-effective plans that ensure the resilience, safety, and performance of the Council's structures-now and into the future.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead strategic planning activities for structural assets, identifying long-term investment needs.
- Manage and interpret condition assessments to inform valuations and renewal forecasting.
- Collaborate with internal stakeholders to inform capital works programs and infrastructure priorities.
- Apply asset data and performance insights to refine lifecycle planning and risk management approaches.
- Deliver technical guidance on asset-related matters and keep infrastructure records current and accurate.
- Support environmentally responsible infrastructure initiatives aligned with the Council's climate action goals.
Key Selection Criteria:
- A degree in engineering, asset management or a related discipline, or significant relevant experience in structural asset planning.
- A well-rounded understanding of asset management frameworks, legislation and lifecycle modelling, especially for local government or road authority environments.
- Proven experience in managing data-driven planning and prioritisation processes.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to explain technical concepts to diverse stakeholders.
- A proactive mindset with an interest in sustainability, innovation, and continuous improvement.
- Physical capacity to undertake field-based inspections, including in challenging terrain.
Why work here?
You'll be part of a collaborative and forward-thinking team that values innovation, smart planning, and sustainable delivery. You'll have the opportunity to influence key infrastructure decisions that benefit thousands of residents while advancing your career in a supportive regional setting.
