The Department of Education is seeking experienced and passionate practitioners to join our Student Wellbeing Support directorate as a Behaviour Specialist Practitioners. This is your opportunity to support inclusive, safe, and responsive school environments for students across NSW by delivering high-quality, evidence-based behaviour interventions.
We are excited to announce openings for multiple Behaviour Specialist Practitioner positions within our Student Wellbeing directorate.
- Location: Various NSW Department of Education office
- Required to work 4 days per week in identified education office location/schools.
- Salary: Clerk Grade 9/10 with base salary ranging from $125,693 to $138,510 per annum, plus employer’s contribution to superannuation and annual leave loading

About the Student Wellbeing Support Directorate
Student Wellbeing Support provide direct support to schools to strengthen accessible and inclusive education practice to maximise wellbeing and learning for students in NSW public schools. The Student Wellbeing Support directorate includes four Student Wellbeing Support groups that service our schools across various principal networks. Student Wellbeing Support advances equitable outcomes through outcomes focused programs, systems, and processes.
Schools access our support through the one-call, Team Around a School model. The Team Around a School helps school teams to improve student learning and wellbeing practices and strengthens school and staff initiatives across the care continuum. We are a key enabler of the department’s Plan for Public Education and are committed to ensuring we provide support to schools that is efficient, effective, and easy to access.
About the role
This position will work as part of the behaviour specialist team, providing support to schools. The Behaviour Specialist Practitioner will develop and deliver high quality, evidence-based interventions and strategies to assist schools to support students with behaviours of concern in public schools across NSW.
The Behaviour Specialist Practitioner will use their skills and experiences in supporting children and young people with behaviours of concern to build the capacity of school staff and reduce the frequency and or severity of challenging behaviours. (behaviours of concern may be associated with communication difficulties, trauma, sensory needs, social skills development or disability).
The Behaviour Specialist Practitioner will work with school staff to develop tools, plans and approaches to support and build capacity in the area of student behaviour.

About you
You're a skilled practitioner with strong communication and collaboration skills, and you’re passionate about enabling inclusive education. You're adaptable, solutions-focused, and thrive in a team environment.
Key knowledge and experience:
- Knowledge and understanding of current research and best practice in behaviour supports and interventions.
- Knowledge of and commitment to implementing the Department’s Aboriginal Education Policy and upholding the Department’s Partnership Agreement with the NSW AECG and to ensure quality outcomes for Aboriginal people.
Essential requirements:
- Tertiary qualifications in Speech Therapy, Occupational Therapy, psychology, Youth Work or othe allied health discipline and extensive experience in a field related to complex behaviour support.
- Hold a current and valid Working with Children Check (WWCC) for paid employment (or willing to acquire one)
- Current and valid driver’s licence and willingness to travel
- Demonstrated understanding of and commitment to the value of public education
