Purpose of Position:
Behaviour Support Practitioners are an essential component of our operational and clinical teams. The primary purpose of the Behaviour Support Practitioner role is to design, develop, and implement Positive Behaviour Support (PBS) Plans for NDIS Participants to increase their quality of life. The Behaviour Support Specialist develops and implements behaviour intervention plans to support individuals with behavioural challenges. This role involves working closely with clients, families, and other professionals to create a supportive environment that promotes positive behavioural change to increase quality of life, reduce challenging behaviours, and minimise restrictive practices (RP).
Position Description
NDIS Behaviour Support Practitioner
Use various assessment tools to understand a person's behaviour and surroundings.
Communicate with clients, their families, staff, and other organisations to ensure comprehensive support.
Create detailed plans to help manage and improve behaviour, following legal guidelines.
Teach parents, caregivers, and service providers how to use behaviour support plans effectively.
Offer advice on using restrictive practices (methods to limit certain behaviours) and reporting to the relevant authorities
Hold regular meetings to review and adjust behaviour support plans and practices.
Use methods that respect the person's dignity and rights while supporting positive behaviour.
Keep detailed and secure records of client information.
Ensure all client information is kept private and follow confidentiality policies.
Be organised, accurate, flexible, and detail-oriented in your work and reports.
Attend training sessions to improve your skills.
Meet regularly with your supervisor for guidance and support.
Demonstrate commitment to the organisation's values and focus on client-centred care.
Be prepared to travel occasionally to meet clients and attend meetings.
A Day in the Life of PBS
Start your day by reviewing client files and preparing for appointments.
Attend a house visit to conduct a holistic assessment of a new client, evaluating their behaviour and environment to identify support needs.
Head back to the office for writing and developing a Positive Behaviour Support Plan (PBSP) for a client.
Facilitate an online training session for parents and caregivers on effectively implementing the PBSP.
Attend a monthly meeting with implementing providers at their location to review the progress of behaviour support plans and make necessary adjustments.
Guide a service provider on using restrictive practices and reporting requirements via phone.
Wrap up the day by updating client records, ensuring all information is accurate and securely stored.
Remuneration
Remuneration for this position is based on the successful candidate’s skills, qualifications, and experience. This is also dependent on employee hours.
Employee salary is based on the SCHADS award pay scales.
Annual full-time starting salary $90-$110k
Part-time roles are also considered

About You
Skills & Qualifications
Mandatory
Demonstrated understanding of Positive Behaviour Support principles, including functional behaviour assessments, development of behaviour support plans, and implementation processes or willing to learn.
Well-developed understanding of trauma-informed practice.
Proven experience or willingness to learn about delivering behaviour support services to children with diverse needs, particularly within the NDIS framework.
Strong understanding and commitment to neuro-affirming practices.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage effectively with children, families, and support teams/
Demonstrated ability to work independently and manage a flexible schedule.
Reliable transportation and a valid driver's license for travel between meetings.
Demonstrated experience in providing disability supports, including working with individuals with complex behaviours.

Highly Desirable
2 years of experience delivering support to people with complex behaviour support needs.
2 years of experience designing, developing, and implementing Positive Behaviour Support.
Experience making visual resources
Understanding of all the jargon around NDIS
Relevant tertiary qualifications in one of the following fields:
Psychology
Behavioural Science
Social Work
Occupational Therapy
Speech Therapy
Nursing
Teaching
Mandatory Security Check Requirements (or willingness to obtain)
National Police Check Clearance
Current NDIS Worker Screening Check
Working with Children Check clearance (Employee)
Current First Aid Certificate + CPR
Completion of the NDIS worker modules:
Worker Orientation Module 'Quality, Safety and You'
New worker – NDIS induction modules
Supporting effective communication
Infection control
Behaviour Support Practitioner ID number required
Registration with the NDIS Quality and Safeguards Commission as a Behaviour Support Practitioner (or willingness to obtain it, which can take up to 8 weeks).
