Senior Manager - Chemical Safety Planning
- $179,102 per annum + superannuation
- Full-Time, Ongoing position
- Wurundjeri Woi Wurrung Country / Melbourne based (Hybrid working model)
Purpose
The purpose of this role is to lead and manage WorkSafe's Chemical Safety Planning program. This includes collection and analysis of data that is then used to plan and design specific programs of work and areas of focus. The role also oversees all internal processes and procedures used across the Major Hazards Program including the management of administrative matters that impact on Major Hazard Facilities licensing, such as changes, notifications and new applications. This is therefore a key leadership and influencing role with the Major Hazards Program sitting on the Major Hazards & Dangerous Goods Leadership Team.
Key Accountabilities:
- Lead specific Major Hazards work programs in response to key risk areas and industry trends.
- Accountable for the identification of incidents worthy of investigation for learning value and collection of data, and ensure such incidents are investigated and where appropriate shared with industry.
- Develop data-driven and risk-based oversight plans for each Major Hazard Facility.
- Accountable for the development and maintenance of internal working procedures for the Major Hazards Program to ensure ongoing alignment with WorkSafe strategy and relevant legislation.
- Lead the development and maintenance of data-driven risk profiling of the Dangerous Goods industry required for the effective prevention of significant chemical incidents.
- Manage the collection, analysis and use of data to drive programs of work in the Major Hazards, Dangerous Goods Strategic Inspections.
- Manage Major Hazards and Dangerous Goods notifications along with any determinations, registrations and licence amendment matters.
- Monitor, manage and provide support to Chemical Safety Planning Team to ensure business objectives are met.
- Allocate resources and managing the budget for the Chemical Safety Planning function.

You will also possess:
- Highly-developed interpersonal and communication skills, including the ability to negotiate and influence at a senior level and with diverse stakeholders
- Excellent presentation skills
- Strong critical thinking skills and understanding of accident causation in complex, high risk environments
- Experience in an industrial environment, preferably high hazard.
- Leadership skills in building capability of individuals, teams and organisations, managing and motivating diverse teams, identifying and implementing process improvements
- Ability to plan, allocate and align resources to achieve defined business objectives
- Experience in assisting and advising workplaces on how to meet their Occupational Health & Safety and Dangerous Goods obligations
- Monitoring and managing team and individual performance
