Role

Coastal Electrics are looking for an experienced Electrical Estimator to join our expanding team at our Rockingham office. Reporting to the Operations Manager, you'll be responsible for providing precise cost estimates for new Electrical and Instrumentation projects, mainly within the Mining, Resources, and Heavy Industrial sectors. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in estimating, tender preparation, and supplier negotiations. You will collaborate closely with our Project Delivery Team and Clients to ensure projects are financially feasible and meet client expectations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Review and analyse tender requests/RFQs and present new opportunities to the management team with adequate information to reach an outcome on a bid/no bid decision.
  • Stay updated on industry trends, regulations, and best practices to ensure the accuracy and competitiveness of estimates.
  • Conduct site visits to assess existing conditions and verify project requirements.
  • Undertake accurate material take offs from drawings.
  • Prepare accurate cost estimates for electrical and instrumentation projects.
  • Assess labour, material, and overhead costs to determine competitive pricing.
  • Development and implementation of tender strategies and management of tender deliverables.
  • Liaise closely with project delivery teams and clients to ensure projects are accurately scoped.
  • Provide detailed and organised cost breakdowns and supporting documentation for submissions.
  • Preparation of tender submission documentation, ensuring work method statements and construction schedules are consistent with the proposal and project requirements.
  • Collaborate with project managers, project engineers, financial controller and vendors to prepare competitive tender submissions.
  • Identify risk within each tender, record and provide mitigating solutions within the tender.
  • Assist in reviewing contract terms and negotiating with clients.
  • Maintain and update databases for cost estimates and historical pricing information.
  • Participate in the estimate handover including estimate plans, specifications, and schedule with the Project Manager following project award.
  • Positively manage relationships with sub-contractors, suppliers and consultants.
  • Explore value-add opportunities for presentation to clients.
  • Mentor and share experience with junior team members.
  • Ensure tender submissions meet any closure deadlines and satisfy the requirements for submission.
  • Manage pre and post submission tender clarifications and correspondence.

Role Requirements

  • Minimum of 5 to 10 years of relevant experience estimating within an electrical contracting environment.
  • Extensive knowledge and experience in contract tendering procedures.
  • Demonstrated ability in comprehension and interpretation of contractual documents, specifications and drawings.
  • Demonstrated level of analytical, numerical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Sound knowledge of construction methodologies used in the Construction processes.
  • Demonstrated ability to pursue and tender multiple projects of various size at any one time.
  • Excellent attention to detail and analytical skills.
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
  • Well-developed communication skills both written and verbal.
  • The ability to work well in a team environment.
  • High level computer literacy with a focus on MS Excel, Outlook and Word.
  • Proficiency in SimPRO Software.
