About the Division
People and Workplace Relations (Schools) Division is responsible for providing quality employee services and human resources to support school-based and regional staff in best practice and delivering on workforce strategies and initiatives to support the attraction and retention of teachers and school workforce staff in Victorian government schools.
- Provides support and advice on payroll and recruitment, school workforce performance and development, HR data analysis and reporting
- Implements and manages a range of workforce supply initiatives to increase supply and distribution of teachers across Victoria, providing targeted support to schools experiencing workforce challenges
- Manages the industrial environment for the schools workforce and employee relations matters and the appointment processes for the Merit Protection Boards and the Victorian Institute of Teaching.
About the Role
The HR Specialist will be part of a team responsible for delivery of a range of HR and payroll policy, systems, and processes, including leave and payroll to key clients in Victorian government schools and non-school locations. The role provides guidance on HR and payroll policy adherence and resolves complex payroll issues. Furthermore, the role provides technical leadership and aligns work with operational plans and departmental values through effective mentoring and role modelling. - Customer Focus: Understand customer requirements and how work addresses customer needs. Identifies opportunities to improve services. Committed to delivering high quality outcomes for clients
Desirable Qualifications and Experience
- Experience working in a dynamic, high performing payroll and HR advisory and operational function in a large complex organisation.
- Experience in technical leadership in HR and payroll
- Capacity to make evidence-based decisions.
- Strong knowledge and understanding of HR and payroll policies, procedures, and practices.
- Ability to interpret and convey specialist HR concepts and policies to diverse stakeholders.
- Effective problem-solving capability to resolve or escalate operational service queries.
- A Tertiary qualification in HR or similar
