About the Role
We’re seeking a motivated Technical Officer to join the Independent Onboard Monitoring (IOM) team within Reporting, Information and Digital Solutions (RIDS). This role supports the implementation and management of electronic monitoring programs across the East Coast Otter Trawl Fishery (ECOTF) and Gillnet (NX) fishery.
You'll deliver training, troubleshoot technical systems, and engage directly with commercial fishers up and down the Queensland coast.

What You’ll Do

  • Deliver training and support for IOM, electronic reporting, and TEP (Threatened, Endangered, Protected) species engagement
  • Troubleshoot monitoring/reporting systems remotely and onboard fishing vessels
  • Assist with equipment installation and ensure it aligns with program goals
  • Develop technical documentation, operational procedures, and training materials
  • Review footage and validate logbook entries as part of the NX IOM program
  • Engage face-to-face with stakeholders across key Queensland ports
  • Work collaboratively within a 7-person team split between Brisbane and Cairns
  • Maintain confidentiality and stay up to date with vessel monitoring systems

What We’re Looking For
Highly desirable:

  • Tertiary qualification (TAFE or Bachelor’s) in marine or environmental science
  • Experience with digital/electronic monitoring and reporting tools
  • Understanding of Queensland’s commercial fisheries
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills
  • Current Driver’s Licence (essential for travel requirements)

Why Join Us?

  • Work on meaningful environmental projects
  • Be part of a supportive, skilled team
  • Enjoy flexible working options (hybrid WFH available)
  • Travel across beautiful coastal regions
  • Competitive hourly rate and secure contract until end of 2026

Apply now to help shape the future of sustainable fisheries and marine conservation in Queensland.
