Women’s Health and Equality Queensland (WHEQ) are leaders in women’s health, gender equality, and the primary prevention of violence. We are a not-for-profit organisation that has been improving health outcomes for women for over 40 years. Our vision is to create a world where women and girls are equitably resourced, healthy, safe and thriving.

Our work focusses on HEALTHY WOMEN and SYSTEMS CHANGE and includes counselling and support services, healing and recovery after violence, health promotion, community violence prevention, professional education, capacity building, systems leadership and policy development.

Our work focusses on creating better outcomes for cohorts experiencing the highest rates of health disadvantage and inequality. ABOUT THE ROLE

As the Community Collaboration Coordinator, you will:

Lead with compassion: Supervise a dedicated team of staff and volunteers, guiding project priorities and creating a positive, collaborative culture.

Co-create community projects: Apply community development principles to co-design and deliver initiatives that prevent gendered violence and improve health outcomes for women and girls.

Build strong partnerships: Engage and collaborate with a wide range of stakeholders including community groups, service providers, and government agencies.

Amplify impact: Evaluate programs, prepare grant applications, and contribute to quality improvement and innovation that drives long-term change for women, girls and gender-diverse people.

This is an office-based role located in South Brisbane. It also involves engagement with communities across Queensland, including facilitating meetings, training delivery, and intrastate travel.

POSITION DESCRIPTION - Community Collaboration Coordinator

Reports to: Health and Equality Lead
Work location: South Brisbane, with some intrastate travel required.
Classification: Social, Community, Homecare & Disability Services Industrial Award 2010
Remuneration: As per contract Working Hours: 30.4 hours per week (0.8FTE) Normal Working Pattern: Monday to Thursday 9:00am-5:00pm or as negotiated

The Role

The Community Collaboration Coordinator is responsible for leading a team in the development, coordination, delivery and evaluation of community programs, networks, events, and professional education designed to create healthier, safer and more equal communities for women in Queensland. The position has a strong focus on supporting communities, organisations and people of all ages, genders, abilities, and cultures to prevent gendered violence, alongside health promotion for priority cohorts.

Reporting Structure

The Community Collaboration Coordinator reports to the Health and Equality Lead and line manages a small team. The role collaborates across the organisation, working closely with internal and external stakeholders to deliver high-impact programs and initiatives.

Position Responsibilities

Leading project teams and co-developing and delivering community programs, alongside supporting senior employees with the operation of a community organisation of a complex nature.

Team Leadership and Supervision

Provide line management, coordination, support and supervision for team members and volunteers

Develop, monitor and manage project and program level budgets

Set priorities, guide work plans, and support team collaboration and performance

Contribute to a positive workplace culture and champion organisational values.

Co-creation of programs with communities

Apply community development principles to co-develop, deliver, and evaluate community-based projects and events that enhance community capacity to prevent gendered violence and promote women’s health

Collaborate with participants, community members, service providers, team members and researchers to develop evidence-based programs tailored to community needs

Develop and nurture professional partnerships with diverse stakeholders, including government agencies, corporate sponsors, philanthropic groups, and community organisations and groups

Co-develop and deliver education and training on gendered violence, women’s health, primary prevention, and gender equity

Represent WHEQ in alliances, forums, and networks

Prepare grant applications and funding proposals to support community collaboration initiatives

Evaluation, Reporting, and Continuous Improvement

Monitor program impact, ensuring initiatives meet KPIs, funding agreements, and organisational priorities

Stay current with best-practice principles, research and community co-creation methodologies.

Ensure compliance with funding agreements, contractual obligations and WHEQ’s strategic objectives, including meeting all KPIs and reporting requirements.

Identify and implement opportunities for quality improvement and innovation

Oversee program evaluation, data collection, analysis, and reporting to support evidence-based decision-making

Key Requirements in the Role

Compassionate leadership

Ability to lead teams, manage projects, and oversee multiple initiatives simultaneously

Experience supervising staff, including work planning, coaching, and professional development

Knowledge of Community Development in a health context

Experience designing, delivering, and evaluating community engagement or health promotion programs

Strong understanding of gender equity, violence prevention, and women’s health initiatives

Stakeholder engagement and partnerships

Ability to build and maintain relationships with government, health, corporate, and community partners

Strong public speaking and facilitation skills for training and education programs

Evaluation and continuous improvement

Experience monitoring program outcomes, developing reports, and ensuring compliance with funding requirements

Ability to use data and feedback to drive program innovation and continuous improvement

Commitment to WHEQ’s purpose and values

Strong understanding of feminist, intersectional, and trauma-informed approaches to women’s health and gender equity

Commitment to diversity, inclusion, and social justice in health promotion work

Additional Requirements

Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent experience) in Community Development, Public Health, Social Work, or related fields

Minimum 5 years’ experience in community development, engagement, prevention, or health promotion

Minimum 2 years’ experience leading teams

Current Working with Children Check (or willingness to obtain)

Ability to travel within Queensland as required

Strong digital literacy

Experience with event planning, grant writing, or policy development is desirable
