About the opportunity
The Community Engagement Worker supports the delivery of the Suicide Prevention Community Action Plan (SPCAP) across the Townsville region, using a collective impact approach. This role focuses on raising awareness of suicide prevention, supporting community engagement activities, and promoting access to mental health services.
Key Responsibilities:
Collaborate closely with the SPCAP team and Community Development Coordinator
Engage local community members and 'gatekeepers' to raise awareness of suicide prevention
Promote and share information on available suicide prevention training and resources
Manage and update the region's SPCAP website and social media channels
Assist in planning and delivering SPCAP events, community forums, and workshops
Support referral pathways by connecting at-risk individuals with appropriate services
Collect, analyse, and report data and feedback from community engagement activities
To be successful in this role, you will need:
- Relevant qualifications or commensurate experience in working in the mental health or community services sector, generally Certificate IV or Diploma qualification (Health/Mental Health)
- Non-judgmental, supportive attitude and ability to listen to community needs
- Ability to remain calm in a crisis situation
Desirable:
- Experience in Community Development and/or Suicide Prevention.
- Experience with program planning, development, coordination and delivery.
- Demonstrated experience and or transferable skills/ knowledge in working with people who have experienced suicidality or bereavement
Required Compliance:
- Right to work within Australia
- 100 points of identification
- Current valid Driver's Licence and the ability to undertake some travel
- Satisfactory National Police Records Check
- NDIS Worker Orientation Module Certificate
- NDIS Worker Screening Check
- Working with Children's Check (Employee/PAID)
