Total Business Partners
Posted 18 days ago
About the company:
Our client is a dynamic group operating across multiple entities within the commercial construction, metal fabrication, surface treatment, and hire sectors. With a combined annual turnover of approximately $15 million, they pride themselves on delivering quality services and products to their clients.
The Opportunity:
We are seeking a highly experienced Bookkeeper or Finance Officer to take ownership of their day-to-day financial operations. This role is pivotal in ensuring the smooth running of the business’ accounts payable and receivable functions, payroll processing, and financial reconciliations including bank, profit & loss and balance sheets in Xero. You will work closely with the project management team to manage progress claims and work-in-progress calculations. While you will be supported by our accounting firm, this role requires a proactive individual capable of managing financial tasks independently.
About You:
You’re the kind of person who doesn’t just “do the books” — you want to understand how the numbers connect to the business. You're inquisitive, eager to ask questions, and comfortable diving into new systems or working out how a process fits together. Whether it's clarifying project costs with a supervisor or figuring out how a platform tracks job progress, you're not afraid to get involved and learn.
You’re highly organised with strong attention to detail and can manage competing priorities with confidence. You’re comfortable working independently, taking initiative when needed, and keeping things running smoothly without constant oversight. A Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Commerce, or a related field is highly regarded and will support your success in this diverse, hands-on role.
Key Responsibilities:
Manage end-to-end Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable processes.
Oversee payroll processing for all staff, ensuring compliance with relevant legislation and awards.
Accurately maintain financial data across both Xero and a project-based operations platform used to manage job costing, timesheets, and invoicing workflows.
Collaborate with project managers to prepare and review progress claims and work-in-progress reports.
Liaise with external accountants to assist with their preparation of BAS, Tax, FBT, Payroll Tax and QBCC reporting requirements.
Maintain confidentiality and ensure data integrity across all financial transactions.
Why Join Us:
Secure, long-term role in a well-established business with a supportive leadership team
Diverse role with plenty of variety – no two days the same
Opportunity to contribute meaningfully to operational success
Competitive salary package reflective of your skills and experience
How to Apply:
If you are a dedicated finance professional looking to contribute to a dynamic team, we would love to hear from you. Please submit your resume and a cover letter outlining your suitability for the role.
Note: This is a confidential recruitment process, and discretion is assured for all applicants.
