PART-TIME MATERNITY LEAVE / PART-TIME PERMANENT

The opportunity exists for a nurse to join the expert team at BallaratOSM. Our vision is to provide patients of Ballarat, and surrounding districts, with the highest quality patient focused individualised care. BallaratOSM is the centre of Orthopaedic and Sports Medicine excellence for Ballarat and is located in an historic 1880’s building in the heart of the Ballarat Medical precinct.

At BallaratOSM you will work with a team of support staff, as well as specialized independent practitioners in Orthopaedic Surgery and Sport and Exercise Medicine.

Reporting directly to the Practice Manager, this position is open to experienced nurses with a salary commensurate with experience.

The position will initially be 9x8hr days per fortnight [minimum 12 months] converting to 38hrs per fortnight permanent part-time upon the maternity relief component concluding.

The role is to provide nursing support to orthopaedic surgeons and sport & exercise medicine patients in our consulting rooms. Duties will include, patient education, pre and post operative care, wound care, assist with pain management, and pain relief injections. The practice hours are 0830hrs-1730hrs Monday – Friday. The successful applicant must remain flexible to changes in shifts based on organisational requirements including leave cover.

Orthopaedic experience is preferred but not essential

Clinical skills: Registered Nurse with advanced clinical knowledge; preferably with orthopaedic nursing experience

Computer skills: Knowledge and operating ability of Microsoft Office and Apple Mac computer systems and medical Client Management Systems, preferably Genie.

Customer service skills: Demonstrate the necessary professional skills to facilitate patient participation in self-care by providing information needed to make decisions and choices for the promotion, maintenance, and restoration of health.

Organizational skills: Demonstrated ability to be able to get things done in a coordinated manner to manage workloads and meet priorities whilst they maintain accurate and confidential records.

Decision making skills: Demonstrated ability to make good decisions, problem solve and take proactive decisions especially in the absence of the orthopaedic doctor.

Continuous Improvement skills: Demonstrated commitment to continually improve and to strive for the achievement of high standards and ability to develop new practice approaches based on the integration of research, theory, and practice knowledge.

Teamwork skills: Demonstrated ability to work as a part of a team as a valuable contributor and, also independently when required.

Communication skills: Demonstrate excellent verbal and oral communication skills to interact with patients and support people, provide them with relevant support and information for current and future needs.
