OVERVIEW:

The Assembly’s objective is to promote the self-determination and empowerment of Traditional Owners and Aboriginal Victorians in the Treaty process, including by:

Acting as the First Peoples’ Representative Body to negotiate and agree Statewide Treaty and Interim Agreements,

Acting as the Aboriginal Representative Body to support Treaty negotiations (including administering the Self-Determination Fund),

Enabling Traditional Owners and Aboriginal Victorians to exercise sovereignty, the right to self-determination and other rights; including those contained in the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples (UNDRIP).

This role is responsible for providing administrative support for the First People's Assembly, its Council and Committees.

Responsibilities:

Establish and maintain trusted relationships with Members.

Act as a key point of contact between Members and Assembly staff to support effective communication and service delivery.

Provide support and advice to Members to assist them to undertake their portfolio and representative responsibilities.

Provide high-level services to Members to enable their preparedness and successful delivery of their Assembly roles.

Anticipate the needs of Members and implement relevant systems and processes.

Lead and coordinate the requirements for the key regional monthly Member meetings.

Identify and deliver continual improvement of processes and systems.

Supports the Manager with the induction of new Assembly Members and other functions.

Seek advice as required from the Office of the General Counsel.

Support the delivery of Assembly elections.

Set outcomes and develop work methods where procedures are not defined.

Undertake other duties as directed.

Qualifications & Experience:

Demonstrated knowledge of First Peoples' communities and organisations within Victoria.

Demonstrated strong customer service skills.

Demonstrated strong organisational and project management skills with an ability to work to timelines and be outcome focused whilst managing multiple tasks.

Solid understanding of statutory requirements, organisational programs, policies, and activities.

Ability to work both independently and collaboratively as a productive team member.

Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Works under general direction with well-established procedures and guidelines.

Manages time, sets priorities, and organises own work.

Discipline knowledge gained through experience, training, or education.

Current open driver’s license.

Current Working with Children Check.

Salary of $ 91,418 - $ 97,567 per annum (full-time equivalent) plus salary packaging, and superannuation, based on experience and expertise.
