About the role

Groote Archipelago Regional Council is seeking a dynamic and experienced WHS and Training Coordinator to join our team. As the WHS and Training Coordinator, you will be responsible for promoting and ensuring workplace health and safety across the Groote Archipelago Regional Council. This role involves developing, implementing, and monitoring health and safety policies, as well as coordinating training programs to enhance employee skills and safety awareness. This is a full-time position based in Parap, NT 0820.

What you'll be doing

Developing, implementing, and continuously improving the council's WHS management system to ensure compliance with relevant legislation and industry best practices

Conducting risk assessments, implementing control measures, and monitoring the effectiveness of WHS initiatives

Coordinating and delivering training programs on a range of topics, including workplace safety, first aid, and emergency response

Investigating incidents and accidents, and implementing corrective actions to prevent recurrence

Providing guidance and support to managers and employees on WHS matters

Maintaining accurate records and reporting on WHS performance to senior management

Collaborating with external stakeholders, such as regulatory authorities and industry partners, to stay informed of emerging WHS trends and best practices

What we're looking for

Tertiary qualification in a relevant field, such as Work Health and Safety or HR.

Minimum 3 years' experience in a similar WHS or training coordination role, preferably within the local government or public sector

Demonstrated knowledge of WHS legislation, regulations, and industry standards

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively liaise with employees at all levels

Strong project management and problem-solving skills, with the ability to prioritise and manage multiple tasks

Proficient in the use of relevant WHS management systems and Microsoft Office Suite

A passion for promoting a positive safety culture and contributing to the overall wellbeing of employees
