SUPPS is dedicated to supporting pregnant women facing substance use challenges. We offer intake assessments, treatment services, and case management during pregnancy and postpartum, with plans to extend care up to two years postnatally.

What You'll be Doing
The Clinical Midwife Consultant (CMC)/Clinical Nurse Consultant (CNC) is an expert practitioner who, through leadership facilitates evidence based practice. The CMC/CNC will promote a service which fosters clinical excellence, research and professional leadership.

The CMC/CNC contributes to quality health care by collaborating with the health care providers and consumer groups, developing clinical practice standards and evaluating their outcomes. The CMC/CNC is responsible for providing services which facilitate effective management of the care in the given specialty.

Where You'll Be Working
SWSLHD Drug Health Services operates across the South Western Sydney Local Health District, providing a comprehensive range of treatments and interventions for individuals, families, and carers affected by alcohol and other drug use.

The services include inpatient withdrawal at the 'Corella' unit in Fairfield, the Opioid Treatment Program, outpatient clinics, and specialised teams such as the Aboriginal Drug & Alcohol Team and the Youth Service. Recognised for their excellence, SWSLHD Drug Health Services has been a finalist in the NSW Health Excellence in Allied Health Awards, highlighting their commitment to high-quality care and innovation.

How to Apply

  1. Current Authority to Practice as a Midwife/Nurse with the Australian Health Practitioners Regulation Agency (AHPRA)
    At least 5 years full time equivalent post registration experience, with at least 3 years full time equivalent experience in the specialty field. In addition, the employee must have approved postgraduate nursing/midwifery qualifications relevant to the field in which the employee is appointed, or such other qualifications or experience deemed appropriate by the public hospital or public health organisation. Drug and Alcohol experience is essential.
  2. Demonstrated evidence of strategies used to maintain current knowledge of clinical practice advances and research in the relevant specialty
  3. Demonstrated ability to apply expert knowledge to provide safe compassionate quality care that is culturally responsive
  4. Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate and engage with patients/consumers, carers and the multidisciplinary health care team to identify and ensure responsiveness of care needs
  5. Demonstrated capacity to interact with others in a personable and professional manner and personally resolve conflicts when they arise
  6. Demonstrated evidence of the use of critical thinking as it relates to the delivery of advanced evidenced based midwifery/nursing care
  7. Demonstrated understanding and participation in risk management, work health and safety and quality improvement in the workplace
