About the Role

Based in Mount Gambier, this position will contribute to the research efforts of UniSA STEM, in relation to work on forest health projects for the Forestry Centre of Excellence (FCoE). Supporting the Forest Health and Biosecurity Program through the project GT Forest, the position will:

  • Assist with the implementation of the forest health and biosecurity monitoring and reporting system for the Green Triangle Region
  • Manage, develop, adapt, and improve all data systems, processes, and procedures for Forest health
  • Maintain regular communication and build relationships with stakeholders to service industry in Forest Health

The Forestry Centre of Excellence (FCoE) is a research centre established in December 2023, funded by the South Australian government and located at the UniSA campus at Mount Gambier, South Australia. It builds on the successful research portfolio established through the UniSA Forest Research Mount Gambier initiative that commenced in 2018 and has now been absorbed into the FCoE. The SA Government will fund the FCoE with A$15M over ten years, and the University of South Australia and the Green Triangle Forest industries Hub are providing further funding as co-investment. Research income obtained through other forestry funding streams will also be managed through the FCoE. The Centre aims to be acknowledged as an international leader in forest industries for research, education, product, and market development. It will have a significant focus on industry collaboration to elevate research outcomes with clear translation into business and supporting additional workforce capability and investment in new innovations across forest industries.

Essential Skills and Experience

  • Bachelor of Science or Bachelor of Engineering (other relevant qualification, or significant experience in an environmental monitoring and reporting role will be considered), as well as a minimum of two to three years’ experience
  • Demonstrated capacity to use critical thinking for experimental design
  • Knowledge of plant pathology, plant health and plant pest processes
  • Experience with setup and maintenance of field monitoring equipment
  • Good communication skills, including a demonstrated ability to successfully develop constructive professional relationships, positively interact with a broad range of audiences (internal and external) and willingness to research and provide solutions

This position is a flexible ordinary hours appointment, which requires ordinary hours to be worked on a rostered shift arrangement that includes performing work both within and outside the span of ordinary hours as specified in the University of South Australia Enterprise Agreement 2023 and its successor enterprise agreements. A flexibility loading will be paid at the appropriate rate for every hour worked outside of the span of ordinary hours as specified in the Enterprise Agreement.
