Parkinson Sharefarming Pty Ltd is a family- owned dairy business based at Kirkstall and Ballangeich in South West Victoria. A position has come up as a Dairy Agricultural Technician at Kirkstall.

Tasks include:

· Report directly to the farm manager;

· Operate milking plant and equipment, and daily milking routines, including being in charge of milk quality management and the herd testing program;

· Calve rearing duties, in particular in relation to health, record keeping and assisting the vets;

· Ability to understand and connect the farm’s operations as a whole, and within the wider dairy industry;

· Within guidelines, take corrective action where plant and equipment are not operating as usual;

· Herd health and wellbeing- ability to identify and treat most common cow’s health issues, record and evaluate herd health as a whole, and assist vets as necessary;

· Assisting with the breeding program, supervising and assisting the AI technician (contractor);

· Pasture and fodder management, including being charge of regular soil testing, fertiliser management, irrigation monitoring and feed quality testing;

· Farm infrastructure maintenance and testing- plant and equipment, water and fences;

· Operate, maintain and evaluate computerised systems and records, and take corrective action within the manager’s guidelines;

· At times, operate various farm machinery;

· Supervise and train staff members, in particular as relating to technical processes; and

· Assist the manager in identifying issues and creating solutions with regards to day-to-day farm management.

· Salary: $73,000-$78,000 pa + superannuation;
