About the role

Are you a creative storyteller with a flair for crafting compelling content that captures attention and drives engagement? Do you thrive in a fast-paced environment? The City of Swan is on the lookout for a Communications Officer to join our Media and Communications team.

This role is pivotal in shaping and sharing the City’s stories with our community and stakeholders.

From crafting media releases and e-newsletters to pitching great stories and producing vibrant video content, you’ll be part of a team dedicated to amplifying the City’s projects, achievements, services and events.

Key accountabilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Proactively identify and create newsworthy opportunities to profile the City’s programs and services
  • Work in partnership with the City’s business units to understand their communications and marketing needs
  • Write and edit content for media releases, newsletters, videos, social media and internal publications
  • Develop and execute effective communications strategies and media campaigns
  • Manage media enquiries and support crisis communications as needed
  • Produce creative written and visual content for a broad range of channels
  • Monitor, review and report on campaign effectiveness to ensure continuous improvement.

About you

The successful candidate will have the following:

  • A tertiary qualification in a relevant discipline such as communications, writing, public relations or marketing (or significant experience that equates to a tertiary qualification)
  • Experience creating and delivering successful communications or promotional plans
  • Demonstrated skills as a highly competent writer across a broad range of communications channels, including digital content, media releases, speeches, key messages, and reports
  • Knowledge of the news media and how to maximise positive media coverage
  • Content creation skills, such as videography, photography, and editing
  • A satisfactory National Police Certificate is required
  • Current ‘C’ class drivers licence.

The salary for this position will be from $91,194.72 to $108,194.90 per annum, depending on the skills and experience of the successful applicant.
