About the One basin CRC (Cooperative Research Centre)

The One Basin Cooperative Research Centre (CRC) has been established to grow value from water in a changing world. The One Basin CRC is an industry-led, collaborative partnership established to build a more productive, resilient and sustainable Murray–Darling Basin for current and future generations.

Established in mid-2022, the One Basin Cooperative Research Centre (CRC) is a 10-year, $150 million program to bring science-led solutions to the region. It sees independent researchers and scientists working in local communities, partnering with industry, producers and First Nations peoples to solve real world problems.

The Murray–Darling Basin is Australia’s largest and most complex river system, covering more than a million square kilometres. Home to 2.3 million Australians and 40 First Nations communities, the region produces more than $22 billion in agricultural output each year and boasts an $11 billion tourism industry. However, the basin is facing significant, complex challenges in adapting to climate change and responding to water and environmental risks.

From Queensland to South Australia, the One Basin CRC is facilitating collaborations between universities, industry, business, government, not-for-profit organisations and local communities, across the agriculture, environment, water and technology sectors, together working towards our vision of growing the value of water in a changing world.

The CRC has a commitment to place-based research in the Basin with focus around four Regional Hubs located at Mildura, Loxton, Griffith and Goondiwindi.
