About the Department

The Community Services Department works within the Customer and Organisational Services Directorate to promote a sustainable Southern Downs where all residents have the opportunity to grow, learn, create, care and connect within.

Community Services play a key role in improving the wellbeing of the Southern Downs community. The department maintains a variety of community facilities and coordinates initiatives such as disaster response and recovery and civic events. The Department delivers on strategies to support mutual collaboration opportunities between community groups, encourage capacity building and foster a connected and engaged community.

Your Opportunity

In this position, you will assist to coordinate Council's community services operations throughout the region, enjoying a diverse role, high autonomy and strong team support. This position provides leadership to other staff in the Branch and manages the functions within the area to ensure provision of an efficient and effective service to internal and external stakeholders.

Term: Full-time

Hours of Work: 72.5 hours per fortnight, 9 day fortnight

Pay Level: $3,324.54 to $3,455.97 per fortnight (Level 5), plus superannuation and annual leave loading

In accordance with Council's Enterprise Agreement and the relevant Award. Pay rate dependent on relevant skills and experience.

Employment Base: Warwick or Stanthorpe, Queensland (will be negotiated with successful candidate)

Other Information: Due to the nature of this role, work outside of standard hours is sometimes required. This may include evenings, public holidays and weekends and will generally be in the case of planned community/Council events and/or unexpected emergencies and staffing issues. Accordingly, a willingness to work flexible hours as required is needed in this position. Where applicable, TOIL arrangements or relevant overtime/penalty rates will apply.

  • Assist with Coordination of the activities of staff within the operations of Stanthorpe Fitness Centre, Aquatic Centre and Swimming Pools, Outside School Hours Care facility, Housing, Aerodromes, Recreational Camping
  • Develop positive working relationships through liaison with relevant stakeholders including peak industry bodies, Statutory Departments, and appointed Contractors.
  • Assist with the ongoing monitoring and review of all business operations to ensure continuous improvement in the delivery of services for the operations.
  • Assist with research, coordination and management of funding applications and funding agreements for capital projects within the operations for that area of responsibility.

What You Will Need

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • Experience in the coordination and operation of these activities or similar: Fitness Centres, Outside School Hours Care Facilities, Housing, Aerodromes, Aquatic Centres and Swimming Pools and Recreational Camping;
  • Highly developed interpersonal and communication skills both written and oral, including management skills to ensure planning and prioritisation of workload to meet deadlines and liaise with a diverse range of stakeholders;
  • High level computer literacy and demonstrated skills in the operation of current computer applications;
  • Proven ability to plan, develop, implement and monitor programs, policies and projects; and
  • To be able to demonstrate your competence in relation to all of the Selection Criteria as detailed in the Position Description
