Senior Development Assessment Planner
Location: Southern Highlands, NSW
Employment Type: Permanent
Salary: Up to $130,000 + 11.5 % Super and Leaseback vehicle
Hybrid Working: 2 days per week
Core Talent has partnered with a local council in the Southern Highlands, NSW, to recruit for a Senior Development Assessment Planner. As a Senior Development Assessment Planner, you'll play a pivotal role in driving efficient and effective assessment processes for development applications and related initiatives. For this senior position council would expect the successful candidate to have a minimum of 5 years NSW local government experience.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assess a variety of complex development applications across residential, commercial, industrial, and subdivision proposals, ensuring compliance with relevant legislation and timeframes.
- Provide mentorship and technical guidance to enhance the team's capability and service delivery.
- Prepare and present planning reports to Local and Regional Planning Panels.
- Attend site visits and pre-development meetings, providing practical advice on land use and site constraints.
- Represent the planning team in key meetings, including court hearings and discussions with stakeholders.
- Deliver exceptional customer service by responding to technical enquiries and participating in duty rosters.
Essential Criteria:
- Degree in Town Planning, Urban Planning, Environmental Science, or related field, with at least 3 years' experience in development assessment within local government.
- Strong knowledge of planning legislation, including the Environmental Planning and Assessment Act 1979.
- Proven ability to mentor and guide team members in delivering high-quality outcomes.
- Excellent communication, problem-solving, and relationship-building skills.
- Ability to manage competing priorities in a fast-paced environment.
Requirements:
- Valid C Class Driver's Licence
- Ability to meet physical demands (occasional site visits)
- Willingness to participate in required training and screenings (e.g., WHS, EEO, induction)
