Laboratory Manager (Blackwater, QLD)

Our core business is the supply of laboratory-based testing and associated consultancy services. CoalBed Laboratories is specialised in coal quality, gas testing, fugitive emissions, and environmental services, with proven experience in Australian and International Projects.

We are backed by 80+ years of combined industry experience. We actively research, develop, innovate new and improved techniques including collaborations with industry peers, and studies for the greater improvement of knowledge and systems.

Who are we seeking?

We are seeking a skilled Laboratory Manager or Senior Technician who has previous experience in coal quality laboratories and analysis, to manage our new site-based Blackwater laboratory in Queensland.

To be successful in this role, you will have:

Either a Bachelor of Science Degree and/or Diploma of Laboratory Techniques or equivalent that is recognised in Australia,

3+ years’ experience in coal laboratories,

Experience in managing staff in the daily operation of a laboratory,

The suitable candidate will live locally to our facility (Blackwater, Emerald, Rockhampton and Gladstone regions),

Consideration will also be given to applicants willing to relocate to any of the cities/towns listed.

Strong technical knowledge and operational experience in TC/TS, Calorimeter and TGA instrumentation (such brands as LECO, ELTRA or equivalent) and Coal Quality analysis methods,

Proven leadership and time management skills.

Experience in ISO9001 and ISO1725 (NATA) Quality Systems

Preferred but not essential:

Onsite mine experience is advantageous

Coal Seam Gas and Gas Composition analysis experience

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

The safe and efficient management of the on-site laboratory and personnel.

The strict maintenance and periodical reporting of all KPI’s required by the contract service agreement and our quality systems.

Management of Safety, QA/QC systems and accreditations:

ISO9001 Quality management systems, accreditation, and audits

ISO17025 (NATA) systems, accreditation, and audits

Ensure the team implements company policies and procedures.

Implement and maintain Safety, Quality and Environmental Management Systems.

Routine coal quality analysis and reporting; including sample preparation

Instrument maintenance and trouble shooting

High level of competency in computer literacy, including:

MS office suite of applications,

Database/records management systems, and

Cloud based software and technology (including Cornerstone, OneDrive, SharePoint and Connecteam).

Data validation and reporting.

The Roster

The roster is currently day shift only, however there is the possibility for night shift in the future (at the client’s request):

Drive in – Drive out Roster:

14/14 Day shift (10-hour shifts)

14/14 Day and Night shift (10-hour shifts)

Reside in Blackwater option

Monday to Friday (10-hour shifts)

Salary range is dependent on the negotiated roster option.
