Are you passionate about science and eager to make a difference in water quality? Mackay Regional Council is looking for a dedicated Laboratory Analyst to join our team.

If you have a keen eye for detail and enjoy conducting physical, chemical, and microbiological testing, this is the perfect role for you!

Key Responsibilities:

  • Sample Specialist: Conduct routine and complex sampling, processing, and testing of water and wastewater samples.
  • Quality Controller: Comply with standard methodologies and record test results accurately.
  • AnalyticalAce: Analyse samples, review quality control results, and ensure accuracy.
  • Batch Boss: Create Analytical Batches and prioritize samples to meet Turnaround Time (TAT) requirements.
  • Maintenance Maven: Perform housekeeping and general maintenance duties related to sampling and testing.
  • Client Liaison: Receive and register samples, provide correct sample bottles, and offer face-to-face and telephone client support.
  • Equipment Expert: Perform calibration, maintenance, and troubleshooting of laboratory equipment.
  • Stock Supervisor: Ensure stock levels of consumables are maintained and initiate ordering.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Diploma in Laboratory Technology, Diploma in Science, or equivalent.
  • Capacity and willingness to undertake further studies to maintain knowledge and skills.
  • Current QLD 'C' Class manual drivers' licence or interstate equivalent.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of testing and sampling techniques and laboratory procedures.
  • Working knowledge of quality management systems within a laboratory.
  • Must-Haves:

Council is committed to the safety of its employees and requires an immunisation program for identified roles. The successful applicant will be required to attend a post-employment immunisation assessment, by a health practitioner nominated and paid for by the Council

  • Bachelor of Science, majoring in Chemistry, Biochemistry, or equivalent.
  • Desirable:

  • Communication Pro: Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (both verbal and written).
  • Tech-Savvy: Proficient in using a wide variety of laboratory and field equipment.
  • Organizational Whiz: Ability to program work schedules and prioritize workload.
  • Analytical Thinker: Strong analytical skills and attention to detail.
  • Independent Worker: Ability to work unsupervised and alone for periods.
  • Computer Literate: Proficient in Microsoft Excel and Word.
