Due to continued growth, our client is seeking a Junior Account Manager to join their Commercial Team in a permanent, full-time position. Reporting to the Business Development Manager, this hybrid role offers a unique blend of office-based and field-based customer engagement.
You will manage a portfolio of smaller accounts, with the opportunity to grow and expand your portfolio and client base over time. The role is based in an eastern suburb of Melbourne (hybrid: 3 days in the office, 2 from home), with approximately 50% of your time spent working collaboratively with internal teams, and 50% on the road, visiting customers across VIC and NSW.
This is an excellent career development opportunity for someone with a passion for food science, strong interpersonal skills, and a desire to move into a customer-facing role. Full training in products, sales processes, and customer engagement will be provided.
In addition to a competitive base salary, this role offers a car allowance, a fuel card, eTag for work-related travel, and eligibility for an annual bonus.
Some of your duties will include:
Build strong, long-term relationships with your customer portfolio primarily across VIC and NSW
Collaborate with Account Managers, Product Managers, and Laboratory Technicians to provide technical support and guidance to clients
Respond to customer inquiries, provide ingredient recommendations, pricing, and organise samples for product development trials
Liaise with internal teams, including Customer Service, Quality, and Logistics, to ensure customer satisfaction and efficient service delivery
Participate in supplier training to enhance your technical knowledge and keep up to date with new ingredients
Identify opportunities to cross-sell and grow business within your accounts
Maintain CRM records and manage your territory effectively
SELECTION CRITERIA
No previous sales experience is required—this is an ideal entry-level role for someone with food science experience looking to transition into a commercial role.
A tertiary qualification in Food Science or a related field
1–2 years’ experience in a laboratory or technical role within the food industry, ideally with exposure to new product development (NPD)
An understanding of ingredient functionality and food formulations
A competitive spirit, commercial mindset, and sales drive, backed by your technical background in food science
Excellent communication skills—both written and verbal
A proactive and curious mindset, with the ability to work autonomously and as part of a team
Strong organisational skills and proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word), CRM systems, and ERP platforms
A professional, customer-focused attitude with high attention to detail
Willingness to travel interstate (NSW) regularly and hold a valid Australian driver’s licence
