About this exciting opportunity
The Data Governance Officer is responsible for applying practices, standards, principles, and methodologies to deliver fit-for-purpose advice and guidance to researchers along with handling internal and external data requests for AIMS research data in a prompt manner. As our Data Governance Officer you will work collaboratively within a multi-disciplinary team and apply innovation to achieve impact.
The responsibilities of this role include:
- Work collaboratively within a multi-disciplinary, geographically diverse environment, and operate as an effective team member to increase the automated delivery of AIMS data applying FAIR and CARE data principles;
- work collaboratively with areas of the Institute to align and harmonise data governance and management with existing processes, such as information management; and
- use well-developed stakeholder engagement skills to build relationships with data stewards/Researchers.
About you
Underpinning your suitability for this role is your formal qualification in Science, Information Science, Information Technology or Engineering. You are experienced with metadata standards, such as ANZLIC II / ISO 19115/19139 / Dublin Core, for describing or cataloguing data and information assets. You are able to engage with stakeholders and provide guidance to data stewards to continually improve data provenance. You have demonstrated experience in the development of effective policy, training materials and resources. Experience with spatial mapping tooling like ArcGIS/QGIS and metadata entry systems is highly desirable.

- AIMS AOF Level 4 salary ($93,934 to $106,895 per annum) plus 15.4% superannuation
- Full-time, Parental Leave Replacement Officer (Labour hire) opportunity to 30 June 2026
- Located in Townsville (Qld)
- 9-day fortnight, enjoy a long weekend each fortnight
