The Opportunity:
Our client is seeking a hands-on, humble, and commercially astute Sales Manager to lead and expand their steel trading business within Australia. This is a full-time position based in their Sydney office.
This role is ideal for someone capable of managing day-to-day sales operations from the ground up while also contributing strategically to the future direction of trading activities. You'll need a strong grasp of the steel market and logistics, excellent relationship-building skills, and the ability to collaborate effectively with international teams. The expectation is for the successful candidate to be actively involved with clients, take ownership of results, and contribute to high-level planning with the international head office. This position offers a significant opportunity to make a meaningful impact on the company's steel trading operations in Australia, with potential for future growth within the business.
Key Responsibilities:
- Manage and grow B2B sales of imported steel products throughout Australia, leveraging market knowledge and customer contacts.
- Identify and cultivate new customer relationships while maintaining strong connections with existing clients.
- Process customer inquiries and offers, including conducting domestic and international client visits.
- Coordinate the complete import process, including contract negotiation, documentation management (e.g., L/C, B/L), and delivery scheduling.
- Collaborate closely with the company's head office to implement corporate sales strategies and provide local market insights for future planning.
- Monitor market trends, pricing dynamics, and customer demand to inform purchasing and sales strategies.
- Liaise effectively with freight forwarders, customs brokers, and local transport providers to ensure seamless delivery and service.
- Prepare regular sales reports, market analyses, and forecasts for internal review.
About You:
- Over 10 years of experience in steel or industrial materials trading, with a demonstrated track record in sales and client management.
- In-depth knowledge of international trade processes, documentation, and domestic logistics/supply chain coordination.
- Excellent communication and negotiation abilities.
- Strategic thinker capable of working both independently and collaboratively within a team.
- Must possess a driver's license and be willing to undertake frequent domestic and international travel.
- Respectful of corporate standards, professional conduct, and teamwork within a multicultural setting.
- Proficient in Microsoft Excel and general business software.
