You’ll be part of a team responsible for delivering an exceptional student living experience, with a strong focus on maintenance excellence, safety, and responsive service. The Handy Person plays a key role in creating a comfortable, well-maintained, and safe environment for residents by overseeing day-to-day repairs, preventative maintenance, and general upkeep of the property.

From responding promptly to maintenance requests and carrying out essential repairs to supporting the wider team with property operations, the Handy Person upholds high standards of service and reliability. Your attention to detail and hands-on approach will directly impact the quality of life for students, ensuring everything from their rooms to shared spaces function smoothly.

This role requires practical problem-solving skills, adaptability, and a commitment to creating a positive, safe, and welcoming environment where students can thrive. Working closely with the Assistant General Manager and the broader team, the Handy Person will help uphold Journal’s reputation for quality and resident satisfaction, ensuring an outstanding student living experience from day one.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Conduct and coordinate maintenance servicing within the scope of expertise, qualifications, and experience.

Oversee and execute preventative, reactive, and cyclical maintenance to uphold high facility standards.

Engage and assist in inducting contractors, ensuring compliance with safety regulations and company standards.

Provide excellent customer service, identifying and addressing student needs with scheduling and repair completions.

Implement and adhere to all Journal policies and procedures.

Coordinate day-to-day hands-on maintenance tasks efficiently, utilizing the property management system for task updates and communication.

Prioritize service and work requests, ensuring timely response and resolution.

Assist the AGM with procurement and vendor quotes for maintenance and repairs within budgetary guidelines.

Maintain accurate inventory records in coordination with the AGM.

Ensure accurate completion of work records, reports, and documentation as required.

Foster a positive atmosphere for both residents and team members, enhancing the overall student experience.

Perform additional duties as directed, within the scope and classification of the position.

COMPLIANCE

Adhere to all Journal policies, processes, and standard operating procedures.

Conduct regular audits to identify and resolve maintenance and Work Health & Safety (WHS)/Occupational Health & Safety (OHS) issues.

QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE

Secondary School Certificate.

Background in facilities or general maintenance repairs.

Experience in large residential properties is preferred but not required.

Valid Working with Children Check.

Ability to obtain a national police check.
