The Assembly’s objective is to promote the self-determination and empowerment of Traditional Owners and Aboriginal Victorians in the Treaty process, including by:

Acting as the First Peoples’ Representative Body to negotiate and agree Statewide Treaty and Interim Agreements,

Acting as the Aboriginal Representative Body to support Treaty negotiations (including administering the Self-Determination Fund),

Enabling Traditional Owners and Aboriginal Victorians to exercise sovereignty, the right to self-determination and other rights; including those contained in the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples (UNDRIP).

This is an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander Designated Position, classified under 'special measures' of section 12 of the Equal Opportunity Act 2010. Only Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander people are eligible to apply.

Responsibilities

Plan and deliver Youth Voice events, meetings, accommodation requirements, resources and communications, including in regional locations.

Act as an advocate for youths across Victoria in ensuring their voices are heard and included in the roles set out by the Youth Voice.

Track the allocated budget and expenditure of the Assembly’s Youth Voice.

Assist with the development of internal and external communications regarding the work of the Youth Voice.

Build and maintain strong, positive relationships with First Nations youths living across Victoria.

Establish and maintain strong, positive working relationships with our First Nations stakeholders and the youth services sector, including the Koorie Youth Council.

Lead the project management of the development of the Youth Voice model, based on feedback from youths.

Enable youths to access technology, transport, accommodation, meeting papers, and other supports as needed.

Where required, ensure the Assembly governance obligations and practices are adhered to.

Qualifications & Experience

Experienced in working with multiple stakeholders and First Nations community representatives to achieve set objectives.

Experienced in the Coordination and organisation of First Nations people to prepare and support us for attendance at strategic events and functions

Business Administration qualifications (well regarded) or equivalent experience.

Current open driver’s license.

Current Working with Children check.

Demonstrated knowledge of Aboriginal Communities and organisations within Victoria.

Demonstrated skills and capacity to work effectively and with integrity in the context of a Victorian First Peoples’ Representative Body.

Salary from $113,022 plus superannuation and salary packaging, based on experience and expertise.
