About the role

The Animal Genetics and Breeding Unit (AGBU) is currently seeking an enthusiastic and qualified Analyst and/or an IT Specialist to join the team at either a HEO6 or HEO7 level. The principal purpose of these positions is to support both the ongoing research efforts of scientists within AGBU and the increasing commercial delivery demands of our stakeholders. The position requires varied skillsets, from programming experience to Linux systems administration, and as such, experience in several key areas is a must. Duties would include general Linux systems administration, routine handling of a genomic data pipeline for commercial evaluations, database support, analytical software development, and more general IT support. The duties are diverse across the team, and across research projects with real world day-to-day commercial impact.

About you

Are you an adaptable IT professional with expertise in Linux systems administration, HPC cluster management, and programming? AGBU is on the hunt for driven individuals ready to enhance our research computing infrastructure, supporting both groundbreaking research and expanding commercial needs. Depending on your experience, your role could range from technical support to leading the management of Linux environments and optimizing HPC operations. Skills in scripting languages like Python, Fortran, R, and BASH, as well as experience in cloud computing, database management, and strategic backup solutions are highly valued. Your ability to solve problems creatively, think proactively, and communicate effectively with a variety of stakeholders will help you excel in this role. While knowledge of genomics or agricultural computing is a plus, we are eager to meet candidates with a robust IT background who are passionate about growing their skills in a dynamic, research-focused setting. Join AGBU to make a significant impact in an innovative team environment!
