About us

Manuka Medical Centre is a GP owned general practice operating in picturesque Manuka for over 30 years. This well-established private billing practice in the heart of Canberra consists of a team of doctors, nurses and staff who are dedicated and committed to the health and wellbeing of patients in Canberra and its surrounding areas. The centre is open Monday to Friday from 8am to 6pm and Saturday 8:30am to 1pm.

About the role

Reporting to the Practice Manager, this part-time role (minimum 20 hours per week) will suit a switched-on, personable individual. We are ideally looking for someone with previous experience in a receptionist role (in a medical setting, preferrably in a GP clinic), seeking professional development and pursuing a potential career in practice management.

Patient needs are our utmost priority and together we ensure patients have a smooth, friendly, and professional experience. The role will suit someone who is friendly, intuitive, and looking to take that next step in healthcare administration. The right candidate should be flexible with varying shifts, and be willing to cover other staff members on short notice.

Duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to:

Greeting, welcoming and providing support to patients in a friendly and professional manner

Answering phone calls and handling patient queries

Booking appointments

Assisting our healthcare professionals; including maintaining up-to-date relevant clinical records.

Liaising and corresponding with specialists, nursing homes, allied health professionals, pathology clinics and imaging providers

Adhering to the practice's policies and procedures at all times

Administrative support and other ad hoc duties

Processing consultation payments and Medicare rebates

Triaging emergencies if and when they occur

Always maintaining confidentiality of patient personal and financial information

Ensuring reception area, patient waiting-room and clinical rooms are clean and well-organised

Skills and experience

Previous experience in a healthcare practice (GP clinic preferred)

Proficient with medical software and online booking systems (Best Practice and HotDoc preferred)

Strong communication skills with a friendly and confident personality

Well-presented and exceptional commitment to patient care/service.

Previous experience and competency in using Microsoft Office products will be highly regarded

Highly organised, attention to detail and aptitude for multi-tasking

Ability to work independently as well as part of a multi-disciplinary team

Commitment to personal development and learning
