About the Role:
We are seeking a visionary manager to lead a team of specialists in shaping the Library’s research services at Curtin. As the Manager, Library Research Services, you will drive innovative programs that empower researchers and higher degree by research students, ensuring they have access to the best tools and expertise to advance their work.
In this role, you will work closely with researchers, build strong relationships, and provide high-quality services that have a real impact. Under the broad direction of the Deputy Director, Research and Systems, you’ll provide high-level advice to the Library’s leadership team and represent the Library on key committees and working groups. Additionally, you’ll collaborate with other institutions and organisations, engaging with a broad network of stakeholders to ensure our research services remain at the cutting edge of best practices.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Lead the Research Services team in the development and management of the Library’s research services, including research data management, institutional repository, researcher profiles, scholarly publishing, research impact and metrics, copyright, systematic reviews, HDR support programs, and library acquisitions, collection development.
- Provide strategic leadership and people management, fostering a culture of high achievement, continuous improvement, and professional development within the team.
- Work with the Manager, Acquisitions, to manage and continuously improve the acquisitions and collection development functions, including the development of plans, guidelines, procedures and performance measures.
- Build partnerships with internal and external stakeholders to align library services with the University’s research priorities, while seeking strategic partnerships, grants, and collaborative project opportunities.
- Proactively monitor the quality, relevance and impact of the Library’s research services to effectively leverage staff and resources to ensure alignment with Library and University strategic priorities.
- Collaborate with the Research Office to develop effective institutional repository, staff profiles, and publication management infrastructure as part of researcher workflows.
We are looking for:
- Relevant qualifications and extensive relevant experience; or extensive management experience in a relevant field; or an equivalent combination of relevant experience and/or education/training.
- Strong leadership skills with the ability to guide, coach, and manage staff in a complex and dynamic environment.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, fostering a collegial and supportive work culture.
- Proven project management and problem-solving abilities, with a flexible and innovative approach to challenges.
- Previous experience leading research services and support programs within a large academic library or similar organisation, with a strong understanding of the academic research process and scholarly communication landscape.
- Professional qualification in librarianship (highly desirable).
Role Requirements:
- As this is a continuing (permanent) role, you will require permanent work rights in Australia to be considered
