About the Role

Join the Queensland public sector in a trusted finance role supporting financial reporting, policy development, and staff capability. As a Senior Financial Accountant, you'll lead monthly and annual ledger close processes, ensure compliance with QLD Treasury guidelines and AAS, and help maintain the integrity of the general ledger and fixed asset register.

You’ll provide expert advice, develop policies, deliver training, and assist with managing the Building Trust Fund. This role is key to delivering accurate, timely financial information and strengthening internal financial capability.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead monthly close and annual financial statement preparation
• Ensure general ledger and asset register integrity, including stocktakes and impairment reviews
• Manage reporting and processes for the Building Trust Fund
• Deliver financial reports and ensure compliance with accounting standards and Treasury requirements
• Provide expert financial advice and training to staff
• Lead or support finance-related projects and system improvements
• Respond to ad hoc financial requests and analysis needs

About You
To succeed in this role, you will bring:
✔ Proven experience in financial and asset accounting within a public or commercial organisation
✔ Strong understanding of Australian Accounting Standards and QLD Treasury reporting
✔ High-level leadership and stakeholder engagement skills
✔ A continuous improvement mindset and public service professionalism
✔ Excellent written and verbal communication, with the ability to advise, liaise, and train

Qualifications & Skills

• Tertiary qualification in Business, Commerce, or Accounting (CPA or CA preferred)
• Strong knowledge of financial systems and advanced Excel
• Experience with fixed asset management and reconciliations
• Ability to lead, influence, and deliver outcomes under pressure
