Purpose:
Drinking water and waste water treatment plant monitoring, maintenance, and compliance activities that ensure provision of a safe, reliable, and sustainable plant and utilities network. Water meter reading in Mitchell, Amby and Mungallala and providing assistance to the Booringa water and sewerage team with repairs when required.
This position will be focused on the Mitchell, Amby, and Mungallala areas, and will provide support to other towns, as required.
Key Responsibilities:
- Complete routine daily inspection checklists and water monitoring tests and record data as required for the town's bores, tanks, and treatment equipment. Report any faults to Supervisor.
- Inspect plant and equipment to ensure compliance is kept current such as safety and electrical equipment test and tag, machine services records, signage, and safety data sheets (SDS).
- Monitor facilities and equipment to ensure it is being run in the most efficient and cost-effective manner.
- Inspect reservoirs to ensure there are no leaks and are operating correctly.
- Monitor and operate bores as directed.
- Inspect and maintain chemical dosing equipment, in accordance with procedures and manufacturers manuals.
- Monitor and operate lift pumps as per manufacturers manuals.
- Maintain safe, tidy water facility buildings and compounds by mowing, whippersnipping, weed and litter control and general housekeeping.

Mandatory and Highly Desirable Qualifications and Licences:
To be successful you will need to demonstrate that you have (* or ability to acquire) the below mandatory requirements for the role:
- Current C (Car) Class Driver Licence
- General Construction Induction (White) Card*
- Apply First Aid and Provide CPR*
- Monitor Operate and Handling Chlorine Disinfection Systems*
- Working in Confined Spaces*
- Authorised Person and Local Government Worker Training*
- Tetanus & Twinrix (hepatitis A & hepatitis B) Vaccine*
- Certificate III in Water Operations*
- MR (Medium Rigid) or HR (Heavy Rigid) Class Driver Licence (Desirable)
Required Skills and Experience:
- Ability to perform manual handling and labouring duties for extended periods in direct sunlight, working in difficult terrain, walking on uneven ground, and prolonged sitting whilst operating plant / machinery hand and foot controls.
- Demonstrated ability to correctly identify non-compliant issues and undertake the relevant compliance action.
- Ability to complete scheduled inspections within allocated timeframes for Council's water supply systems.
- Ability to safely operate mobile plant and equipment within a construction environment.
- Ability to follow direction and complete tasks within allocated timeframes and to required standards.
- Demonstrated ability to work productively both within a team environment and unsupervised.
- Ability to demonstrate a strong commitment to Maranoa Regional Council's values and team goals.
- Previous experience working in local government or similar environment will be highly regarded but is not essential.
Position Details
- Location: Mitchell, Qld
- Full-Time Position - 38hours per week
- Maranoa Regional Council Certified Agreement 2023 - Stream B- Level 4-6
