Position Overview

The Senior Management Accountant is responsible for the preparation, analysis, and reporting of financial information to support effective decision-making within the organisation. This role ensures that financial operations are aligned with business goals, compliance requirements, and regulatory standards. The Senior Management Accountant will work closely with the finance team to deliver timely and accurate financial insights, supporting business strategy and operational efficiency.

The role also provides leadership and guidance to the Finance Team Leader, Accounts Officer, and Payroll Officer, ensuring that financial services are delivered accurately and on time.

Key Responsibilities

1. Financial Reporting & Analysis

· Lead the team to prepare monthly and periodic financial reports, including profit and loss statements, balance sheets, and cash flow reports.

· Analyse financial data to identify trends, variances, and performance gaps.

· Prepare financial models to assess business performance and strategic outcomes.

· Create, disseminate, analyse, and explain accurate, timely, and insightful financial reports—both routine and ad hoc—to support decision-making.

· Provide monthly report to the Head of Finance.

2. Budgeting & Forecasting

· Contribute the preparation of annual budgets and mid-year forecasts.

· Assist the team members with budget performance and report on variances, providing recommendations for corrective action.

· Assist in scenario analysis and long-term financial planning.

· Support the Head of Finance in overseeing the annual budget process and mid-year forecasts.

3. Financial Systems & Controls

· Oversee the organisation’s financial systems (e.g., Xero) to ensure data integrity, accuracy and reconciliation.

· Ensure the accuracy of general ledger records and the proper maintenance of supplier, customer, and employee records.

· Contribute to the design of financial dashboards and data visualisation tools to detect errors and emerging risks.

· Ensure compliance with accounting standards, regulatory requirements, and internal policies.

· Support preparation for internal and external audits.

4. Compliance & Risk Management

· Ensure financial compliance with ATO, Fair Work, and Australian Accounting Standards Board regulations.

· Lead the team to implement financial risk management strategies to protect the organisation’s financial health.

· Monitor legislative changes and assess their financial impact on the organisation.

· Ensure financial records and reports comply with internal and external audit requirements.

5. Leadership & Team Management

· Supervise and support the Finance Team Leader, Accounts Officer, and Payroll Officer.

· Ensure timely and accurate delivery of payroll, accounts payable, and accounts receivable functions.

· Foster a high-performance culture through effective coaching and mentoring.

· To oversee the team’s performance and report to the Head of Finance.

· Build a culture of accountability and continuous improvement within the finance team.

· Support and provide instructions to the team with problem solving.

· Conduct training sessions for team members and other departments to improve financial literacy across the organisation.

· Identify skills gaps within the finance team and implement professional development plans.

· Ensure the finance team stays up to date with changes in financial regulations, systems, and best practices.

7. Technology & Process Optimisation

· Maintain financial dashboards and data visualisation tools (e.g., Power BI) to monitor performance.

· Identify and implement process improvements to enhance financial reporting and analysis.

Qualifications & Experience

· Tertiary qualification in Accounting, Finance, or a related field (Mandatory)

· CPA or CA qualified (Mandatory)

· 3–5 years of experience in management accounting and team supervision (Mandatory)

· Experience in the Age Care (HCP) and NDIS industry (Mandatory)

· Experience with financial systems (Xero preferred)
