Your Role in Active Support

As a Team Leader, you will promote and deliver Active Support, ensuring participants are engaged, empowered, and included in all aspects of their lives. You will lead a team that supports independence, promotes meaningful engagement, and enhances quality of life. Under the direction of the Service Delivery Manager, you will oversee daily operations, compliance, and team leadership while creating an environment where participants have opportunities to actively participate at all opportunities presented supporting true capacity building activities.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

  • Lead by Example: Model and reinforce Active Support principles, ensuring participants are engaged in all aspects of their daily lives.
  • Empower Participants: Support individuals to make informed decisions, develop skills, and participate in meaningful activities.
  • Support Staff Development: Provide coaching and feedback to staff on effective engagement techniques, promoting consistency and quality in service delivery.
  • Foster a Culture of Inclusion: Ensure the household environment promotes respect, choice, and a sense of belonging.
  • Encourage Community Participation: Assist participants in identifying and engaging in social, recreational, and community-based activities.
  • Oversee Wellbeing & Support Plans: Contribute to the development and implementation of individualised support plans, risk assessments, and active participation strategies.
  • Administrative Leadership: Ensure staff comply with documentation, shift notes, health appointment records, and budget management.
  • Continuous Improvement: Review progress notes to ensure documentation reflects an Active Support approach, aligned with Jigsaw Blue’s values and vision.

  • Experience in disability support and leading a team.
  • Strong understanding of dignity, independence, and inclusion in practice.
  • Ability to mentor and coach staff in effective engagement strategies.
  • Excellent communication and problem-solving skills.
  • Organised, proactive, and committed to continuous improvement.
  • Leadership style that influences change management practices

Qualifications & Requirements

To be considered for this role, you must hold or be willing to obtain:

  • NDIS Worker Screening Check (cleared)
  • Working With Children Check (WWCC)
  • Willing to obtain a National Police Check
  • First Aid & CPR Certificate
  • Australian Driver’s Licence
  • Certificate IV in Disability or other relevant qualifications
  • NDIS Worker Orientation Module Certificate
  • COVID-19 and Influenza vaccinations is strongly recommended

Skills & Experience

  • Minimum 2 years’ experience in a Team Leader or similar role, supporting complex participants
  • Knowledge and experience in Residential/Disability Support Services
  • Basic proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (essential)
  • Ability to proactively lead, support, and guide a team
  • Strong assessment, advocacy, and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to review own work practices and implement improvements
  • A commitment to service excellence, participant empowerment, and person-centred care
