Job Description: Café Manager – Rival Brothers Mount Barker
Position: 0.8 FTE or 1 FTE
Salary: $70,000 - $75,000 Base Salary (Pro-rata for 0.8) + Super + Bonuses
About the Role:
Rival Brothers Coffee Roasters is seeking an experienced and dynamic Café Manager to join our team at the Mount Barker Homemaker Centre. Open 7 days a week for breakfast and lunch, our café is a bustling hub beneath the Mount Barker Council. This is a unique opportunity to work closely with the broader Rival Brothers management team to achieve high levels of customer satisfaction and contribute to the ongoing success of the Rival Brothers brand.
As the Café Manager, you will oversee all aspects of our café operations, ensuring exceptional customer service, efficient workflows, and driving both financial and cultural excellence. This role requires a hospitality professional with a deep passion and understanding of the café industry, combining hands-on operational duties with strategic management responsibilities.
Flexibility to work a rotating Management roster, including every second weekend is a MUST. Proposed salaried roster is Week 1: Wednesday - Sunday (5-day week) & Week 2: Tuesday - Friday (4-day week). Enjoy 4 days off every second weekend to support work-life balance.
Key Responsibilities:
- Front of House Operations: Oversee and actively participate in front of house operations, including opening and closing procedures, and supporting coffee operations as a Barista.
- Leadership: Be a motivational and inspiring leader, developing and training the team to ensure exceptional customer satisfaction and personal development.
- Day-to-Day Management: Manage daily operations including stock levels and ordering (in collaboration with the Chef), back of house administration, recruitment, rostering, and handling customer enquiries.
- Quality Assurance: Maintain and advocate for quality and consistency through active leadership.
- Operational Strategies: Develop and implement strategies to maximize efficiency, achieve team-oriented KPIs, and drive operational excellence.
- Business Development: Explore and develop the feasibility of extending café hours to Friday or Saturday evenings and for events.
- Creativity and Innovation: Develop and grow the business through your own ideas and initiatives, with rewards through periodic bonuses.
- Marketing Collaboration: Collaborate with our Social Media marketing consultant to develop and implement marketing strategies.
Qualifications and Skills
- Experience: Minimum 3 years of hospitality experience in a leadership role within a busy café environment or similar.
- Operational Expertise: Proven track record of successfully managing and developing café operations, including staff, inventory, budgets, and business targets.
- Customer Service: Exceptional customer service skills with the ability to lead by example and coach a multi-skilled team.
- Barista Skills: Highly developed barista skills, including the ability to adjust and dial in the machine and grinders.
- Communication and Problem-Solving: Exceptional communication and problem-solving abilities.
- Technical Proficiency: Proficient in relevant hospitality software and point of sale systems.
- Regulatory Knowledge: Knowledge of food safety and licensing regulations in South Australia.
- Licenses: Current RSA and RP license, or willingness to obtain.
- Passion: Genuine passion for the café industry.
