We are seeking a skilled and adaptable Chief Engineer to join our team at Lindeman Island, an international five-star resort currently undergoing a major conversion and retrofit project. This is a unique opportunity to lead a multidisciplinary team of 10-20 professionals and workers, including plumbers, electricians, mechanics, machine operators, and landscapers, in a remote island setting. The role will initially focus on construction and retrofit works for the next 12 months, transitioning into a permanent position managing all engineering, infrastructure, and maintenance operations for the resort and island.

The ideal candidate is a fast learner, open-minded, and eager to embrace new challenges, with strong management skills to effectively lead and coordinate a diverse team. Food and accommodation will be provided on-site, and the candidate must be willing and able to live on Lindeman Island full-time.

Key Responsibilities:

• Oversee and manage all engineering and construction activities related to retrofitting the existing hotel into a world-class five-star resort.
• Coordinate and supervise a team of 10-20 staff, including plumbers, electricians, mechanics, machine operators, and landscapers, ensuring timely and high-quality completion of tasks.
• Collaborate with project managers, contractors, and suppliers to ensure compliance with design specifications, safety standards, and timelines.
• Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues that arise during construction, adapting to the unique challenges of a remote island environment.

• Assume full responsibility for the ongoing maintenance, repair, and operation of all resort infrastructure, including plumbing, electrical systems, HVAC, machinery, and landscaping.
• Develop and implement preventative maintenance programs to ensure the longevity and efficiency of all systems and facilities.
• Manage budgets, inventory, and procurement of engineering supplies and equipment.
• Ensure compliance with all local regulations, safety standards, and environmental guidelines.

• Lead, train, and motivate a diverse team, fostering a collaborative and problem-solving culture.
• Schedule and delegate tasks effectively, ensuring optimal productivity and performance.
• Provide guidance and support to team members, encouraging skill development and adaptability.

Qualifications & Skills:

• Proven experience as a Chief Engineer, Maintenance Manager, or similar leadership role in engineering, construction, or hospitality settings.
• Strong technical knowledge of plumbing, electrical systems, mechanical operations, and general infrastructure maintenance.
• Experience managing teams of 10 or more, with excellent leadership and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to adapt quickly, learn new systems, and tackle challenges in a fast-paced, remote environment.
• Familiarity with construction and retrofit projects is highly desirable.
• Willingness to live and work on a remote island full-time.
• Problem-solving mindset with a proactive and hands-on approach.
• Basic computer skills for reporting, budgeting, and inventory management.

• Must be physically fit and capable of working in a dynamic, outdoor environment.
• Flexibility to work extended hours during the construction phase as needed.
