Heron Island Resort is looking for an experienced Full Time Marine Engine Driver Grade 1 (MED 1) to operate the Fast Ferry "Heron Islander", transporting guests, researchers and staff from the Gladstone Marina, to and from the Island. Holding a capacity of 190 guests, you will ensure a safe and enjoyable experience for the passengers working alongside a passionate and experienced team.

Working with our professional team, this position will assist in the daily operation of our vessel operating from Heron Island to Gladstone. Work rotation are two weeks on, one week off. Ferry transports guests 5 days per week M, W, F, S, S + one service day every week. Worklife balance of a 7am start to 4.30pm finish. Suitable for a Gladstone local.

AS MARINE ENGINE DRIVER GRADE 1 (MED 1) YOUR ROLES WILL:

• Follow up on any reports of malfunction or deterioration of equipment and communicate requests to the Marine Manager/Coordinator on a regular basis (immediately if considered a safety risk).
• Oversee all machinery and equipment checks as outlined in the daily pre-departure checklist and daily operations checklist.
• Oversee all preventative maintenance carried out on vessel and equipment to ensure the vessel is maintained at optimum operational stated.
• Generally, ensure that the vessel is mechanically ready and carrying sufficient fuel, water, oils, spare parts and consumables to maintain the running of the vessel and associated plant and equipment.
• Be accountable for the care, maintenance, security and stowage of all fittings, spares, equipment and stores on or used in conjunction with the vessel.
• Provide a safe and enjoyable experience for our guests;
• Ensure the safety of passengers and crew by implementing vessel safety procedures, monitoring and addressing crew and passengers' adherence to vessel safety procedures, conducting regular safety drills, ensuring thorough induction and training of all employees, and implementing emergency procedures as required;
• Provide a safe and comfortable transfer of all passengers to the Inner and Outer reef;
• Take ultimate responsibility for all safety aspects of any vessel in your charge or management;
• Ensure your vessel (s) is maintained in clean, seaworthy and mechanically sound state;
• Protect the safety of property, including vessels and equipment, passenger baggage, cargo and freight.

THE MARINE ENGINE DRIVER WILL BE TEAM PLAYERS WHO WILL BRING TO THE ROLE:

• Marine Radio Operator's Certificate of Proficiency
• QLD Workplace Health & Safety at Sea
• First Aid & CPR Certificates
• Previous experience working on vessels and a thorough understanding of Vessel Safety Operations and Marine Safety
• Previous maintenance and troubleshooting experience
• In the event of an emergency; an ability to take control, adhere to given directions and direct others (e.g. passengers) to safety
• Current Driver's License

JOB SPECIFIC REQUIREMENTS - MARINE ENGINE DRIVER GRADE 1 (MED 1)

• Marine Engine Driver Grade I (AMSA MED1) (Minimum) with high speed ferry experience preferred.
• Proven experience managing a engineering department on a commercial vessel, preferably with experience in remote locations, rostering and maintenance scheduling
• Previous experience with Caterpillar and hydraulic systems
• You will have excellent communication skills, be a confident and experienced engineer, your attention to detail will be key in this role, as will strong organizational skills and the ability to manage the crew with the Master and give directions to other crew and guests in the case of an incident or emergency.

This position is based at the Gladstone Marina.

You will need to provide evidence of your right to work in Australia and National Criminal Record check.
