Heron Island is a true coral cay, surrounded by crystal clear waters and acres of brilliant coral. Accommodating up to nearly 280 guests, located right on the Great Barrier Reef with a near-perfect climate, ours is an extraordinary place to live and work all year round. There is a marine centre, activities centre, boutique, award-winning day spa, spacious lounge and bar overlooking the pool plus the expansive Shearwater Restaurant. Marine activities for guests and staff include world-class diving, snorkelling, kayaking and cruises.
Wilson Island is situated off Heron Island which in turn is some 80kms off the central Queensland coast from Gladstone. The reef experience on Wilson is extraordinary, a unique encounter few other destinations in the world can offer. Wilson Island is truly an amazing place to visit with 9 Reef Safari Tents accommodating a maximum of 18 adult guests.
We are now looking for a dedicated and experienced Vice General Manager to join our operations to assist with the oversight of all aspects of Heron Island Resort and Wilson Island Resort.
To be considered for this role, you will be able to demonstrate:
- Business Management Degree (preferable) with a minimum of 15 years related hospitality management experience in Front Office, Food and Beverage, Housekeeping and Human Resources.
- Proven ability to work under pressure and manage competing priorities with guest outcomes as a priority
- Previous exposure to fast paced and ever-evolving working remote environment
- A proven track record of preparing budgets, monitoring financial information and making decisions regarding necessary corrective action
- Understanding of P&L statements and the ability to react with impactful strategies
- Proven leadership skills that support the alignment of culture and strategy through employee engagement
- Ability to communicate and negotiate with all key stakeholder groups to ensure the resolution of issues and to delegate were appropriate.
- Excellent interpersonal skills that are supportive of mentoring and coaching all levels of staff within the organisation.
- Proven ability to work with details and time-sensitive issues
- Good decision-making skills and response to high-pressure situations
Vice General Manager Job Responsibilities:
- Prioritise Guest first focus tasks through operational interactions and observations
- Work alongside staff and facilitate changes to enhance guest experience and work/service flow
- Assist with the performance and operational daily functions of the Resort, considerable focus is required on maximising income, ensuring cost control is competitive and minimising risk
- Works closely with the management team to ensure all operational, administrative, and compliance functions within the resort are being properly executed in accordance to regulatory-based best practices
- Assist with the development, recommended, implemented, and managed annual budget and long-term business plan, achieve budgeted sales and maximise profitability
- Assist with the preparation, presentation and subsequent achievement of the Resorts’ annual operating budget, marketing & sales plan, and capital budget
- Identifies trends and assess opportunities to improve processes and execution
- Ensure full compliance to Resorts’ operating controls, SOP’s, policies and procedures and service and health and safety standards
- Assist with all key property issues including capital projects, customer service and refurbishment
- Handle complaints, and oversee the service recovery procedures
- Manage on-going profitability of the Resort, ensuring revenue, guest satisfaction and employee engagement targets are met and exceeded
- Ensure all decisions are made with the best interest of the guest experience and Owner.
- Develop improvement actions and to carry out cost saving analysis without compromising guest direct experience
- Closely monitor the Resorts business reports on a daily basis and make decisions accordingly
- Maintain high visibility throughout the property and staffing community
- Other duties as assigned consistently.
