Company Background

Long-established family-owned group of businesses which includes thriving full dealership operations (sales, service & parts) complimented by a busy industrial and agricultural equipment hire business and wholesale import operations.

Head Office located in Kewdale, with branch operations in Bunbury, Carnarvon and Kununurra.

The Role

We are looking for an experienced, motivated and enthusiastic self-starter to join our team as an Assistant Accountant/Payroll Officer

Reporting to the Group Accountant, your role will be responsible for:

  • maintaining financial transactions, journals and accounts to trial balance
  • end-to end processing of weekly payroll with associated personnel/HR tasks
  • supervising and assisting a small admin team (2.5 FTE)
  • acting as “system admin” to assist with basic troubleshooting within the business
  • supporting the Group Accountant and business owners through reconciliations, compliance and reporting

Examples of specific tasks include:

Accounts/Finance

  • Review of daily bank reconciliations
  • Assisting with Debtor/Creditor ledger queries
  • Checking Credit Note & Customer Refund requests
  • Overseeing key account Inventory purchases & payments
  • Checking import shipments & international payments
  • Review of intercompany reconciliations & transactions
  • Interco bank transfers & management of daily cashflow
  • Inventory management & reconciliations (incl. stock adjustments)
  • Reconciling warranty cost clearing accounts

Payroll

  • Weekly pay-run processing
  • PAYG, Payroll Tax & Super lodgements & payments
  • Monthly BAS Lodgements
  • Administering company Fuel Cards & Mobile Phones
  • Managing & reconciling weekly sales commission reports
  • New employees, contracts & terminations
  • Liaise with the Apprenticeship Management System
  • End of year reconciliations & lodgements

System Admin/IT

  • Basic on-site IT support (first “filter” contact point before involving external consultants)
  • Basic "administrator" tasks for dealership francise portals/platforms

Other Compliance Tasks

  • Insurance updates, renewals & administering insurance claims
  • External debt facility compliance reporting (to Group Accountant)
  • Dealership & financier annual reviews & compliance
  • Relationships & communications with banks, financiers and tax accountants (supporting Group Accountant & business owners)
  • Other Admin/Finance tasks as required

About You

With a minimum of 2 years' similar experience, you should ideally be able to demonstrate the following:

  • Degree in accounting/finance or similar qualification
  • Minimum 2 years experience in an equivalent commercial role
  • Proven accounting/payroll and administration skills
  • Experience in supervising or managing small teams
  • Sound technical knowledge and practical payroll skills
  • Good interpersonal skills (verbal and written) with the ability to communicate at all levels and build strong relationships
  • Excellent time management, keen attention to detail and good organisational skills
  • Demonstrated ability to work to deadlines, self-start and work unsupervised

The Position

This is a full-time position (standard 38 hours per week) and is based in our Kewdale Head Office
