About the Job
We are seeking an experienced and enthusiastic people leader with strong pet care/animal handling experience for the PERMANENT FULL-TIME position of Pet Welfare Supervisor at our Pet Hotel located at Heathcote, south of Sydney. The successful candidate will work 4 x 9.5 hour shifts per week on a rotating roster, between 7am and 7pm, Monday to Sunday. Every third weekend is a Long Weekend Off!
This position reports directly to the Pet Hotel Manager and will oversee a team of passionate pet care attendants, having accountability for the overall health of the pets in our care by ensuring pet welfare activities are conducted effectively and efficiently. Leading by example, the Supervisor will focus on the achievement of high quality outcomes, task planning and allocation, ensure high standards of customer service, and train team members in SOP compliance.
The successful candidate will draw upon their previous work experience as a vet nurse, senior kennel hand or animal attendant, to perform critical pet welfare duties including emergency care/illness management, special feed & medication preparation, as well as securing workplace hygiene/conditions, and coordinating veterinary intervention as required.
About You
You are reliable, motivated, and an experienced team leader with strong communication skills and empathy for others. You have genuine affection for cats and dogs and are customer focused. To be a high performer in this role, you will have:
- Minimum 3 years’ experience in vet nursing/practice management, kennel hand, or animal attendant roles in a medium to large-sized animal boarding facility.
- Demonstrated 3+ years’ experience in operational supervision/people leadership roles, known for energising and motivating your team through your enthusiastic and structured approach.
- Confidence to provide training and guidance to others, leading by example, and providing positive and constructive feedback to bring out the best in your team members.
- Availability to work shifts on a rotating roster across 7 days/week including weekends.
- Availability and willingness to work during peak periods (school holidays, Easter, Christmas), and pick up extra shifts when needed.
- Ability to complete own work at a brisk pace and to required timeframes.
- Ability to assign and delegate tasks, and assist others to plan and prioritise their workload.
- Willingness to jump at the chance to help others in your team and get personal satisfaction from seeing others succeed.
- Ability to work independently, and willing to ask for guidance for more complex matters.
- Excellent communication and a positive attitude, who gets job satisfaction from leading others to achieve their individual and team goals.
- Ideally you've completed Level III or IV certifications in Companion Animal Services, Animal Behaviour & Training, or Veterinary Nursing.
- A current, unrestricted NSW Drivers Licence.
- Commitment to working safely, and following Standard Operating Procedures.
- Willingness and ability to adhere to Hanrob Pet Hotels' operating procedures and work health and safety requirements at all times.
IMPORTANT: This is an active and physical role working across the Pet Hotel. In addition to basic administrative work, the incumbent will primarily be required to work indoors and outdoors (sometimes in inclement weather conditions), and hands on with cats and dogs, on their feet for a significant portion of their day. They must be able to sit, stand, walk, lift, carry, push, pull, bend, crouch, kneel, squat, reach, stretch, and restrain animals up to 50kg on leads, communicate, speak, and interact with customers, internal and external stakeholders, and members of the public in person, over the phone, and online, and occasionally take difficult conversations, including providing feedback and receiving complaints, in order to perform the inherent requirements of the role.
