JOB PURPOSE
The Ranger Coordinator role is responsible for overseeing the effective operation of Yamatji Southern Regional Corporation’s (YSRC) ranger programs, ensuring the successful management of cultural and environmental projects. The role focuses on coordinating on-ground activities, supporting ranger training and development, and fostering partnerships that enhance conservation efforts across Yamatji Country. The Ranger Coordinator works with the Manager Ranger Services to ensure effective administration and delivery of YSRC’s ranger program.
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES & RESULT AREAS
- Supervise and coordinate the day-to-day activities of the Yamatji Rangers to ensure delivery of the annual work plan.
- Collaborate with other coordinators and staff to plan, report, and evaluate ranger activities.
- Ensure effective day to day administrative management of the Ranger program, including timesheets and purchasing.
- Plan, supervise and participate in field activities to remote locations associated with completing the work plan and fee for service opportunities.
- Work with and mentor the Rangers to develop their personal and project skills, leadership abilities and work ethic.
- Support on the job training to enable appropriate professional learning outcomes for rangers.
- Deliver on fee for service opportunities and other projects that support the development and sustainability of the ranger group and Traditional Owner aspirations.
- Assist researchers to engage in approved on-country research with the Rangers.
- Ensure high level responsibility taken by rangers for the care, maintenance and safekeeping of equipment and resources used and be ultimately responsible for the group’s assets.
- Always ensure compliance with cultural protocols and YSRC Policy and Procedures, including the promotion of safe working practices and instruction of Rangers in OH&S policy and procedures.
- Work collaboratively with all colleagues, teams, and stakeholders throughout the course of work.
- Actively and positively contribute to the YSRC team culture.
- Follow all other reasonable management requests as directed.
QUALIFICATIONS, LICENCES AND EXPERIENCE
- 3- 5 years’ experience in a similar role.
- Experience and/or qualifications in ecology, agriculture, threatened species conservation, conservation and land management, fire abatement and suppression, or community development
- Demonstrated experience in working with Aboriginal communities, managing small teams, and coordinating on-ground natural and cultural resource management projects
- Understanding of Aboriginal social and cultural challenges and a commitment to community empowerment, training, and development
- Experience working independently in remote areas with minimal supervision, maintaining focus and organisation in challenging work environments
- Strong communication, negotiation, and community consultation skills
- Proficiency with common computer programs and experience managing emails and documents
Current valid driver’s licence, Working with Children’s Check (WCC), and National Police Check, or the ability to obtain them
