Yinhawangka Aboriginal Corporation are seeking a Ranger Coordinator in Paraburdoo with a drive and passion to support our Traditional Owners of the Yinhawangka Country.
About YAC
Yinhawangka Aboriginal Corporation RNTBC (“YAC”) is the Registered Native Title Body Corporate for approximately 10,000 sq.km around Paraburdoo in the Pilbara of Western Australia which is held in Trust for approximately 360 Yinhawangka people. YAC is experiencing significant growth and it is envisaged that this position will develop, you will require flexibility and openness to change.
About the Role
The primary responsibility of the Ranger Coordinator role is the planning, development and day-to-day Ranger program operations including implementation of the Healthy Country Plan, daily supervision and coordination of Ranger Program employees, protecting the environmental, cultural, and social values of the Yinhawangka people within Yinhawangka Country. This role will also be responsible for effective and respectful engagement with Yinhawangka Elders, Key Knowledge Holders and other Traditional Owner groups, YAC employees and partner representatives.
You will be a natural leader who can develop and build relationships with a wide range of external stakeholders.
This is a full-time position and applicants must be able to commit to living and working within a remote location Paraburdoo with extreme weather conditions. Occasional travel including overnight travel is expected in the role.
Random Drug & Alcohol screenings apply to this role and all other Ranger Program positions.
Key responsibilities
- Supervising Ranger Program staff in Conservation Land and Ecosystems Management of Yinhawangka Country including fire management, feral animals and weed control programs.
- Engaging with our collaborative partners and facilitating Ranger staff opportunities for upskilling.
- Performing and supervising general maintenance duties.
- Attending and actively participating in collaborative partnerships, meetings, forums, and workshops.
- Undertaking revegetation and rehabilitation of Country and monitoring species, habitats, and ecological communities.
- Assisting Traditional Owners in the protection of traditional and ecological knowledge.
- Conducting staff performance reviews, and individual training plans and schedules.
- Performing other duties as directed within your skills, qualification, and experience.
- Maintaining a clean and safe workspace with scheduled compliance audits.
- Complying with all safety procedures and policies.
Key Selection Criteria
- Relevant qualification and previous experience in conservation, land, and ecosystem management (CaLEM).
- Demonstrable experience in the supervision of traditional owners, Ranger, parks & wildlife and/or other conservation teams.
- Ability and willingness to supervise extended CaLEM fieldwork in remote areas as required.
- Exceptional computer skills and proficient use of Microsoft Office suite, Fulcrum, GIS, and other softwares.
- Strong interpersonal and verbal communication skills; ability to communicate at all levels.
- Excellent work ethic and strong time management skills.
- Mandatory: Current WA Class C Driver’s licence (as a minimum).
- Current Working with Children Check or willingness to obtain and maintain.
- Ability to meet the requirements of fitness for work assessment.
- National Police Clearance (not older than six months).
