St John of God Murdoch Hospital is one of the leading private health campuses in Western Australia, and major health care hub in the southern region. Offering 507-beds, services include an emergency department, birth suite and maternity ward, medical library and education center. We have 16 main operating theatres soon to be 18, angio suite, endoscopy unit and Surgicentre. You will be exposed to the latest in surgical technology, including robotics, and work with some of the highest calibre surgeons in Australia who are usually based onsite in our consulting suites.

Your role at St John of God Murdoch Hospital

You will ensure and supervise the effective processing and supply of Operating Room instruments and equipment, and items supplied by CSSD, and other relevant activities.

The Position

  • Daily support and supervision of CSSD staff in liaison with CSSD Manager, ensuring required tasks inclusive of priorities and relevant standards are met.
  • Monitors processing activities as Aus/NZ187 and manufacturer IFU per policy statement and makes recommendations regarding same.
  • Delegates and supervises workload within the department, according to individual skills, to further staff development and to foster teamwork.
  • Prepares for, and deals with equipment received as per policy statements for appropriate decontamination processes.
  • Prepares for, and carries out assembly, packaging and sterilising processes within the department and related areas as per policy statements.
  • Ensures efficient use and maintenance of equipment and material resources in department and related areas.
  • Monitors correct use of chemicals within the department and related areas.
  • Ensures inventory control of CSSD processed items is performed as per policy statement.
  • Checks relevant inventory to ensure adequate supplies are ordered, prepared and ready for use.
  • Monitors the use of storage areas in the department and related areas.
  • Ensures all sterilisers are cleaned and tested on a daily and weekly basis as per policy statement.
  • Supports the delivery of safe patient care and the consumers' experience including identifying, facilitating and participating in continuous safety and quality improvement activities and ensuring services and practices align with the requirements of the National Safety and Quality Health Service Standards and other recognised health standards.
  • Completes mandatory training (including safety and quality training) as relevant to role.
  • Performs duties in accordance with SJGHC, Hospital and Departmental specific policies and procedures.
  • Acts as a technical resource for CSSD staff and other departments, providing appropriate support and advice ensuring AS4187 standards are maintained.
  • Liaises with CSSD caregivers regarding the completion of annual competency validation and training of CSSD staff.

You will hold highly developed organisational, interpersonal and written communication skills. With knowledge of provision of departmental services, you will have the ability to delegate, coordinate, liaise and work collaboratively with colleagues and other multidisciplinary team members.

To succeed you will hold Certificate III in Sterilisation Service or equivalent. Previous relevant experience in hospital sterilisation and ability to teach within CSSD and related areas is essential to the role.
