About the role:

We are currently seeking an experienced and customer centric leader on a permanent basis. Reporting to the Executive Manager Strategic Design and Enablement, you will be responsible for leading planning and implementation of Council’s flooding and stormwater programs. You will be responsible for:

  • To lead planning and implementation of Council’s flooding and stormwater programs to manage risk and enhance resilience across the City including consultation, strategy and policy development.
  • To lead, manage and inspire innovation within Council’s flood and stormwater team through corporate planning and reporting, budget management, section planning and staff training
  • To lead and manage Council’s responsibilities as they relate to flooding and stormwater including Council’s Stormwater Management Service Charge, Floodplain Risk Management Planning and reporting for scheduled dams and detention basins in accordance with the requirements of Dams Safety NSW.
  • To monitor, adhere to and review requirements contained in relevant legislation, standards, policies and codes of practice
  • Investigate, prepare, and assist with management of preliminary and detailed designs, quantity and cost estimates for civil projects in Council’s Stormwater Management Service Charge and Capital Works programs.
  • Provide timely and accurate flood advice to internal and external customers
  • Investigate flooding problems and provide recommended solutions

The successful candidate will demonstrate the following key skills and attributes:

  • Degree in Engineering with significant experience working in the fields of hydraulic or civil engineering.
  • Extensive practical experience in civil infrastructure engineering and the functions and responsibilities in a local government context
  • Demonstrated knowledge of Floodplain Management and Dams Safety in NSW.
  • Demonstrated knowledge in business planning, budget management, strategy development and leading a team to deliver measurable outcomes.
  • Demonstrated project management, cost estimation, business cases, negotiation, procurement, stakeholder management and consultation and project reporting for complex projects.
  • Experience in WSUD and catchment planning to improve catchment health, sustainability and resilience
  • Class C Drivers Licence.
  • Construction Induction Card (White Card) or willingness to obtain.
