About Us
SWM Consulting is one of Australia’s leading flood and stormwater management consultancies, specialising in addressing complex riverine and overland flow challenges across urban and rural landscapes. We are a forward-thinking consultancy built on collaboration, sustainability, and positive social and environmental outcomes. Our mission is to drive the development of sustainable water solutions that benefit communities, protect the environment, and foster social well-being.
We are passionate about the environment and committed to creating lasting, positive water outcomes for future generations. Join us in making a real impact through innovative and sustainable engineering solutions.
About the Role
We are looking for a detail-oriented Flood/Stormwater Engineer with 3 to 5 years’ experience to join our close-knit, inclusive team. This role is perfect for someone who thrives on precision, enjoys being pedantic about the details, and is ready to lead and learn in a dynamic environment.
In this role, you’ll have the opportunity to work in a flexible, trust-based environment where your ideas and contributions truly matter. You’ll play a key role in delivering high-quality projects, improving internal processes, and helping shape the future of SWM Consulting. The role can be part-time or full-time, depending on your availability.
Your Responsibilities Will Include
- Writing project proposals and tender bids to secure new opportunities and grow our client base.
- Developing and optimising hydrologic and hydraulic flood models using industry-leading tools and technologies.
- Compiling and streamlining detailed reviews to ensure the highest standards of accuracy and quality.
- Utilising AI and coding (particularly Python) to build flood models and advance process-driven outcomes.
- Contributing to the formalisation of internal processes to enhance efficiency and scalability.
- Assisting in building (with the potential to lead) a team as we grow and expand our capabilities.
- Working autonomously in a majority work-from-home role, with flexibility to balance work and life commitments.
About You
- A Bachelor's degree in Engineering (Civil or Environmental).
- Flood Engineer with 3 to 5 years’ experience in water-related projects.
- Intermediate to advanced skills in the following tools: TUFLOW, RORB, and QGIS. Experience with WBNM, SOURCE, MUSIC and HEC-RAS is a plus.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to convey technical information effectively to clients and stakeholders.
- Experience in preparing Flood Impact Assessments, Flood or Stormwater Management Strategies and Flood Risk Management Plans.
- A proven track record of delivering high-quality solutions and project outcomes.
- A detail-oriented mindset with a deep understanding of the intricacies of flood modelling platforms.
- A keen interest in building, running, and analysing results from hydrologic and hydraulic models.
- An interest in AI and coding, particularly Python, to drive innovation and efficiency.
- A ‘can do’ attitude and a willingness to take ownership of tasks and projects.
Why Join SWM Consulting?
