Are you passionate about shaping the future of healthcare? Do you have a desire to help medical students grow into self-directed, critical thinkers ready to tackle the challenges of modern medicine? Curtin Medical School is seeking a dedicated and experienced academic to join our team Part-time (0.4FTE) as a Lecturer/Senior Lecturer, supporting Year 3 medical students’ Problem-Based Learning.

This is an exciting opportunity to become a key part of an innovative medical education team, where your expertise and enthusiasm will play a pivotal role in the development of the next generation of healthcare professionals. You will have the chance to influence students’ learning through the facilitation of PBL sessions, the development of curriculum and assessments, and by providing mentorship to students at a critical stage of their medical education. You will also conduct seminars and workshops based on your expertise.

At Curtin Medical School, we are committed to fostering a vibrant, inclusive, and engaging environment for both students and staff. As part of our team, you will have access to professional development, cutting-edge research, and collaborative teaching opportunities within a supportive academic community. This role is ideal for an individual who thrives in an academic setting, is passionate about teaching, and is excited by the opportunity to influence the future of medical education.

Key responsibilities:

  • Lead and facilitate Problem-Based Learning (PBS) sessions.
  • Review, revise, and enhance existing PBS case scenarios to ensure relevance and quality.
  • Develop, assess, and standardise evaluation materials and assessments.
  • Deliver dynamic, interactive seminars in your area of expertise.
  • Provide timely, constructive feedback to medical students regarding their participation in teaching activities and assessments.
  • Cultivate a positive, supportive learning environment while mentoring medical students.
  • Contribute to academic service and demonstrate leadership within the University community.
  • Serve as an examiner in Objective Structured Clinical Examinations (OSCE) across multiple academic years.

We are looking for

  • Fellowship of a relevant medical college in Australia.
  • A medical degree and doctoral qualification (or equivalent accreditation and professional standing).
  • Extensive experience in healthcare education and a solid understanding of educational practices.
  • A commitment to excellence in teaching and fostering student development.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

Desirable:

  • Unrestricted AHPRA registration as a medical practitioner without any current undertakings or conditions.

Role Requirements

As this is a fixed-term contract, you will require current work rights in Australia that match the tenure of this role. Successful applicants are subject to a National Police Clearance, and background, integrity, and reference checks to Curtin’s satisfaction.
