About the school
The National School of Medicine offers a four-year Doctor of Medicine (MD) program that has been fully accredited by the Australian Medical Council of Australia and is highly ranked by graduates in national surveys. Key features include a focus on small group teaching and problem-based learning, combined with rich clinical experiences across the entire program. The School also offers several postgraduate programs.
About the role
This role requires an individual with experience in medical education and curriculum development to support the teaching of the Doctor of Medicine (MD) program at the School of Medicine, Sydney campus. The role is responsible for reviewing and ensuring currency and integration of the learning objectives throughout the four-year program with a focus on the clinical years.
Key Responsibilities
- Support the teaching of the Sydney MD program including ensuring the consistency and capacity of curriculum delivery and support for teaching across all clinical schools, including support of timetabling with a focus on the clinical years.
- Work in collaboration with key stakeholders, including but not limited to the Head of Clinical Years, Heads of Domains and Disciplines in regard to reviewing and revising the learning objectives and associated learning resources, ensuring vertical and horizontal integration of the learning objectives across the medical program.
- Support the Head of Curriculum in developing and maintaining the curriculum database, managing the documentation of course outlines, handbooks, curriculum policy and procedure manuals.
- Support the use of different modalities in the delivery of the curriculum, including the e-learning environment.
- Enhance the Back-to-Base Day activities and ensure general consistency of the delivery of learning opportunities across the clinical schools.
- Support the Rural Clinical School in the delivery of the curriculum and ensuring the standard of learning and teaching support is consistent within the School.
- Support the Head of Curriculum in reviewing and updating the MD program curriculum
- Attend meetings with Heads of Rural Schools via teleconference or video conference.
- Support the Associate Dean, Rural with coordination of academic program events in the Rural Clinical School in collaboration with Heads of Rural Schools and the Foundation Years MEDO.
- Providing support to and participation in relevant School committees.
- Other duties as identified by the Head of Curriculum or Deputy Head of School or Dean.
Qualifications, skills & experience
- Possession of a Medical qualification registrable with AHPRA and a Fellowship of a relevant professional body, or a PhD preferably in medical education.
- Experience in teaching in medical education settings, preferably in a tertiary education context.
- Experience in managing projects to a deadline.
- Experience in managing multidisciplinary teams.
- Ability to effectively liaise with academic colleagues and work both as a member of a team and independently.
- Demonstrated leadership and management qualities including building and maintaining a strong, positive team culture within a complex and geographically disbursed operating environment.
- Advanced written and oral communication skills.
- Excellent interpersonal, organisational, negotiation and networking skills.
- Apply clinical knowledge to manage course related curriculum issues and to develop, implement and review a wide range of course materials.
- Excellent understanding of the e-learning environment.
- Proficiency in the Microsoft Office suite and Web-based applications.
