About the role
This role focuses on increasing Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children’s and families’ engagement with health and early childhood education and care. This role improves access to existing early childhood, maternal and child health, and family support services so children are safe, healthy, and ready to thrive at school in the Upper Ross catchment area by the age of five.
This role is part time (32 hours a week) on contract until 28th February 2026.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
- Provide support in facilitating community engagement activities including transport support, door knocking, community centres, playgroups, kindergartens' and other events.
- Provide sound cultural advice to all stakeholders regarding culturally appropriate practice in the delivery of an integrated service system across early education, health, and family services.
- Identify and communicate gaps, needs and solutions for families to engage with health, early education, and family services.
- Assist with rosters, newsletters and administration tasks.
- Collect data as directed by the Manager and Project Officer and add to the systems a daily basis for data entry.
Skills and Experience
Essential
- Established relationships with local and regional stakeholders; and experience in community development which leads to improved educational outcomes for young children.
- Well developed verbal, written and interpersonal skills including a comprehensive understanding of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander issues with the proven ability to support and work effectively with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander families and community groups.
- Working knowledge of programs, legislation and policies which support culturally appropriate practice in the delivery of an integrated service across health, early education, and family services.
- Administration skills with proficiency in MS Office 365; particularly Word, Excel, and Outlook; and accuracy of data entry, including attention to detail, judgement, initiative, confidentiality and sensitivity in the performance of work.
- Training and experience of the following is desirable: Food Handling Certification, Infection Control training, Car Seat Restraint Training, Transport (Bus) Training and Chemical Handling.
- Effective time management with the proven ability to establish, plan and prioritise own goals and work objectives effectively, and be flexible to meet program and organisational goals.
Desirable
- Understanding of children’s services, funding, and gaps in current service delivery environment.
- Knowledge and experience of the Collective Impact Approach.
Other Essential Requirements
- Class C Driver’s License.
- Satisfactory Police Check – Employees of Community Gro Inc must not have any criminal history or record which would prevent them from working for the organisation and, as such, a satisfactory criminal record check must be completed before commencing employment, with the understanding that consent may be required for further criminal record checks being conducted at other times during employment if requested.
- Valid Blue Card – Employees of Community Gro Inc must be eligible and not restricted from working with children, and a satisfactory working with children check (Blue Card) must be completed before commencing employment, with the understanding that consent may be required for further working with children checks being conducted at other times during employment if requested.
