Your Next Employer
This agribusiness is actively investing in the future of Australian agriculture. At their property located in Carrathool, they’re transforming a former cotton property into a large-scale almond operation - 383ha are already planted (and in production), with plans to exceed 1,000ha by 2028. With new irrigation infrastructure underway and a solid leadership team in place, they provide a structured, well-supported environment.
You'll work alongside the Farm Manager and a permanent team of 10, helping to oversee daily operations, manage staff, and take a hands-on role in the orchard’s ongoing expansion.
The Role
As Assistant Farm Manager (2IC), you'll be central to daily operations - be that managing and mentoring the team, helping oversee irrigation, or ensuring machinery is maintained and running smoothly. It's worth noting that all development work is done in house, allowing you to tailor this role to your strengths.
Success in this role requires strong leadership, a hands-on mindset, and the ability to adapt to seasonal peaks, particularly during harvest (Feb–April) and spraying periods.
Key Responsibilities
- Support daily farm operations – from mentoring junior staff to working with agronomists and suppliers to ensure crops are planted and harvested on time. You'll work closely with the Farm Manager, whether planning ahead or getting hands-on with machinery.
- Irrigation – Assist the Farm Manager (who is an Irrigation Specialist) in overseeing modern irrigation infrastructure (when required).
- Team leadership – Supervise and mentor farm staff, including permanent employees and casual harvest/spraying crews.
- Harvest & spray operations – Manage peak-season activities, including night-shift spraying (when required) cycles and harvest logistics.
- Workforce management – Assist with recruitment, training, and performance management.
- Compliance & reporting – Ensure pre-start checks, paddock records, and QA programs (e.g., myBMP) are maintained and followed.
What You Bring
We’re after a hands-on leader with solid farm operations experience. Whether your background is in broadacre or horticulture, what matters is your ability to:
- Lead and manage people well, fostering a productive and engaged workforce.
- Work flexibly, including shift-based schedules during peak seasons.
- Keep machinery and vehicles in top shape, with a good mechanical aptitude.
- Think ahead and solve problems, with a proactive, solutions-focused mindset.
What You’ll Gain
- Competitive Salary: $85k - $95k + Super + Super + car + housing*
- *Housing: Instead of on-farm accommodation, our client will cover the cost of a rental property in a nearby location of your choice, within a reasonable driving distance to the farm - e.g. Griffith or Hay.
- Career Progression: Clear career development opportunities within this growing operation - who also own multiple other assets across NSW.
